| “ | The Yawstrich is a highly specialized Monster that can only inhabit the lofty perches of Air Island. Sporting four wings and one solitary leg, it has an innate mastery of balance. Despite these unique traits, the Yawstrich is most easily recognized by the shrill and unmistakable call it makes to announce its presence and communicate with other Monsters. | ” |

Description[]
Yawstrich is a Mythical Monster that is first found on Air Island and can be teleported to Mythical Island once fed to level 15. It was added to the PS Vita version of the game on August 12th, 2014 and to the mobile version of the game on September 4th, 2019, along with G'joob, during version 2.3.2. Yawstrich is obtained by breeding T-Rox and Scups. By default, its incubation time is 1 day and 4 hours long. Despite being an elusive Mythical Monster, Yawstrich does not have a high Coin production. The Goal for placing your first Yawstrich rewards the player with 5
.
Song[]
Audio:
Voice actor: Dave Kerr (Air), Tom Meikle (Mythical)
Yawstrich contributes an emphatic, resonant alto-falsetto voice with high vibrato. Its Mythical Island tracks are significantly more controlled, almost to an operatic degree.
Contrary to the popular belief that Yawstrich constitutes yodeling, the technique in question is usually defined as a loud or repeated fluctuation between two different vocal registers, usually chest voice and falsetto. Yawstrich, rather, remains in the same register throughout each of its tracks.
On Air Island, Yawstrich goes "lee, lo-del-lo-del-lai, lo-del-lo-del-leeee".
On Mythical Island, it goes "yo-del-lee, yo-del-lai, yo-del-lee-heeee~" and "yo-de-le-ee".
Breeding[]
On Air Island, Yawstrich can be obtained by breeding Scups and T-Rox. Note that it's not a 100% success rate, but the chances can be increased with Wishing Torches.

(Note that this combo can result in Rare Scups, Rare T-Rox, Rare Noggin, or Rare Toe Jammer if they’re available.)
On Mythical Island, a duplicate Yawstrich can be obtained via unsuccessful breeding for a Sporerow, which has only one combination:

Likes[]
Every Monster has different things that they like. For every unique object that they like that's placed near the Monster, the Monster's happiness will increase by 25%. Placing more than one of the same liked item near a Monster won't increase its happiness by an additional amount. If there's a Unity Tree or a Primordial Monster of the same rarity on the Island, items don't need to be near the Monster. Below are the things liked by Yawstrich:

Statistics[]
Earning Rate and Maximum Income[]
Earning rate is in Coins per minute and depends on Happiness % (Likes increase Happiness) and Monster Level. Each Monster also has a maximum amount of income it can hold at a time. Increasing the Monster's level also increases this limit.
Feeding Monsters[]
Each Monster needs to be fed four times before it reaches the next level. Increasing the Monster's level increases the Coins earned per minute, as well as the maximum Coins earned.

More info can be found in the Feeding article.
Egg Consumption[]
- Main article: Zapping
While trying to breed other Monsters (particularly Monsters with a very low chance of breeding), the following Celestials can be used to "dispose of" Yawstrich eggs immediately, instead of putting them into a Nursery and having that Nursery not be available. Note that doing this for Rare and Epic Wublins will cause the Wublin to stop producing currency and the eggs will not expire.

Note that Monster eggs can only be "disposed of" before awakening Celestials; afterwards those Monsters will not accept any eggs. Also note that Monsters to which you have already disposed the number of Yawstrich eggs that it accepts, will no longer be available as a "recycle bin" for such eggs. Awakened Celestials only accept eggs during their corresponding Celestial month. When being zapped into Celestials as a Flex Egg, Yawstrich is not required for the Celestial to ascend. Also note that Mythical Monsters, like Yawstrich, cannot be zapped from Mythical Island.

Notes[]
- Yawstrich's name is a portmanteau of "yawp" (a harsh cry) and "ostrich," a large, flightless bird.
- Big Blue Bubble signed a contract with Sony permitting Yawstrich and G'joob to be only on the PlayStation®Vita version of the game.[1] However, as of the 2.3.2 anniversary update, it became available across all devices.
- Despite being available on Mythical Island as of version 3.7.1, its bio still references it as being only able to inhabit Air Island.
- Yawstrich is very similar in sound, name, and appearance to Screemu, since both are based on ratites.
- Yawstrich's voice also sounds very similar to that of Plixie, specifically the version from Dawn of Fire.
- Yawstrich was the first Monster to have only one foot.
- Yawstrich is the only Monster besides the Dipsters on Air Island to have a 1 x 1 space.
- Yawstrich, alongside G'joob (the only other Mythical Monster at the time), was made significantly louder in version 3.2.0, however the second half of its song was cut off. This was fixed on June 25th, 2021.
- Yawstrich is the only monster on the Natural Islands to not play with Epic Wubbox.
