My Singing Monsters Wiki

The ancient magic of the Wishing Torches has been rediscovered. When Wishing Torches are lit, it improves the chances of breeding Special Monsters! This puts a whole new spin on 'carrying the torch' for someone! The power of Fire seems to hold sway over the other Natural Elements - Air, Plant, Earth, Water and Cold - and even though Torches are ignited on the surface, they appear to be drawing their energy from deep below, almost as if from the Core itself.

Description[]

Wishing Torches are Structures that can make Breeding more likely to result in special Monsters.

You can buy Torches from the Structures section of the Market, and are able to place up to 10 on each island with Breeding mechanics. Once you place a Torch on your island, you can pay 2 Diamonds to light it for 24 hours. You can also pay 100 Diamonds to permanently light a Torch. A permanently lit Torch burns with a blue flame.

If your Friends visit your islands, they will see a torch icon on any island with an unlit Torch. They can then go to the island and light one Torch by tapping on it. When you visit your island that has had a Torch 'lit' in that way, you can touch it and it will light. Such a Torch will stay lit for 24 hours. Note: It will NOT light until you touch it, so if you have some reason to delay touching it, it will not light, and you will have 24 hours of lit-time after you finally touch it. This can be very helpful if there is some reason to delay the onset of the 24-hour lit-time, e.g. waiting for some Nursery event to unfold. Other players who visit your island from the Visit Random Island button in the Friends Menu can also light a torch for you, and the same wait-til-you-touch-it scenario described above applies.

When you select monsters for breeding, a counter will show how many Torches you have and how many of them are currently lit. Each lit Torch will increase the chances to successfully breed. The exact benefit per Torch is unknown.

One option you have is to use the Torch Highlight feature. Select a Wishing Torch, and you’ll see a flame icon with light emanating behind it, labeled Highlight. When selected, the Torch icon that appears when friends visit your Islands will bounce up-and-down, rather than remain static. This feature can be useful for when you want others to light Torches on specific Islands of yours. Note that highlighted Torches will also emanate a glowing effect.

Strategy[]

Wait to Activate Torches[]

It's best to wait to activate Torches until just before you begin another breeding effort. It is often useful to "save" Torches lit by friends until special breeding promotions arrive, making limited-time Monsters available, or increasing breeding odds. This will further increase your chances of breeding these Monsters.

You can "save up" torches when you are trying to breed a particularly difficult monster - not lighting them until you have all ten ready to light at the same time.

It can also be useful to save Torches on islands you have bred all the available monsters. These Torches will be considered already lit when friends come to visit, leaving only unlit Torches available on islands where you need help.

Timing it to save Diamonds[]

When you're trying to breed an Ethereal monster on Plant Island and Air Island, you can breed the quad-element Monsters (Entbrat or Riff) with a T-Rox. That allows you to make your attempts not less than 8 hours apart (if your Breeding Structure is not Enhanced). On the other islands, your breeding attempts for Ethereals are not less than 12 hours apart (once again, if your Breeding Structure is not Enhanced). This means that for one set of lit Wishing Torches, you can't get more than three breeding tries on Plant and Air islands, or two on the other islands.

However, if you manage your time carefully and spend a couple of Diamonds, you can get one extra try. If you start each breeding attempt immediately after the last one and use one diamond to shorten the breeding time with one Diamond, you can make one more breeding attempt before your Torches go out. Thus, at a cost of two Diamonds, you can squeeze extra use out of the Diamonds you used to light all the Torches — as many as 20 Diamonds if you lit all 10 Torches. The cost effectiveness of this strategy depends on how many Torches you have lit, and how closely you can follow one breeding try with another.

Adding new friends[]

Players who choose Visit Random Island in the Friends menu may visit your island and light a Torch for you. You will see the visitor's name and perhaps their friend code (a string of numbers followed by two letters). Write down the friend code, then go to your Friends menu and click the Invite Friends.

You can do the same. In the Options menu, click on Help. Add your Friend Code to your Display Name, then click Close twice. Visit random islands to light any unlit Torches you find. It's up to the other player to add you but at least some will do so.

For this reason, you might want to leave some Torches unlit on your islands for random visitors and Friends to light for you.

Getting (the right) Torches Lit[]

In order to get the Torches you'd like to have lit get lit, it's best to incentivize and provide direction for anyone visiting your Account who might light Torches;

  • Always exit the game on the Island you want lit; that's the Island that will be 'active' on the map when somebody visits you, so the visitor doesn't have to scroll to an Island with Torches
  • Highlight the Torch(es) you want lit. These highlighted Torches show up on the map with a pulsing icon. Try not to highlight a lot of them; as this defeats the entire purpose
  • Put the Island name in your in-game name.. a lot of people will ignore this though, and if your name is particularly long may even be cut off in Friends list
  • Get Friends. Lots and lots of Friends. The more Friends, the more of your Torches are likely to be lit, including the ones you want
  • If someone lights something a Torch elsewhere, don't be upset; perhaps all your Torches on the desired Island were lit when they visited. Alternatively, they couldn't be bothered to scroll to that Island. Just be glad they lit a Torch, and wait to activate that Torch for when you actually need it on that Island
  • Push comes to shove: only have Torches on the Islands you want lit. People can't light the 'wrong' Torch when it doesn't exist. For mid-to-late game players, Selling/Buying Torches is only a small expense.

Notes[]

Torch new

Wishing Torches in the News

  • Even having 10 Torches lit out of 10, it still would not guarantee a successful breeding. Instead, it only increases your chances.
  • Each Island with Wishing Torches has a different look for them, based on the theme of the island.
  • There will often be sales on permanent Torch-lighting ranging from 50% off (50 Diamonds) to 75% off (25 Diamonds).
  • Think about whether the Wishing Torch's position on an island is on a good location, because if you try to move a Wishing Torch with a pending light, even when not intentionally, the Wishing Torch will light up.
  • Having permanently lit Torches can be a hindrance, as they can make it more difficult to obtain Common monsters for the purpose of Zapping. You may want to consider this before spending the Diamond fee.
  • It is possible to sell a Torch that has been permanently lit.  It has the same selling price, regardless.
  • Prior to being confirmed in the bio after an update, it has been mentioned by BBB on their Facebook page that Wishing Torches contain the power of the Fire Element. Link.
  • Any player at level 4 or above (after the in-game tutorial) can light any other players' Torches.
  • You are able to purchase Torches from Tribal Island through the Mailbox during Structure deals and access the Market, however a placeholder texture will appear and its position on the plane is behind the monster, in front of the island and background. You may also purchase it on Gold Island, Composer Island, or even the Zap Islands (Wublin Island and Celestial Island), although you have to get the notice for the structure deals.
Floating Highlight
  • Torches do not increase the odds of getting a Costumed Monster. However, the Colossal Conundra have a chance to.
  • When a highlighted torch is selected, the torch does the animation but the highlight doesn’t.
  • The last sentence in its description previously used to be the second one.[1] It's unclear when this was changed.
