Wildcards (), are a "Special Item" introduced in 4.1.0 that are used to fill the inventory of a Monster instead of Boxed Monsters, Zapped Monster Eggs, or Diamonds.
Usage[]
When using the Fill button, a prompt will appear that asks the user if they want to use Wildcards, as well as a switch that toggles the use of Wildcards. Using Wildcards will reduce the Diamond fee needed to fill the Monster's inventory. Unlike other items like Relics in the Crucible, there is no option to specify the quantity of Wildcards to spend, meaning if you choose to use Wildcards, as many of them as possible will be utilized to compensate for the absence of Eggs or Monsters until there are none that are missing, or the missing ones would require more Wildcards than you would have remaining.
Therefore, they can be used as substitutes for:
- Boxing Monsters into a Wubbox, Rare Wubbox, or Epic Wubbox.
- Zapping Eggs into a Wublin, a Vessel, or Monculus.
- Zapping Eggs into a Celestial.
The price of the substitution is increased depending on the rarity of the Monster/egg being substituted.

Source[]
Wildcards are obtained mainly through failing to "Early Ascend" a young Celestial Monster once the inventory is almost full. If the process fails, it will yield one or more Wildcard(s). It can also be obtained through the Nexus Nucleus on Magical Nexus. A Wildcard cannot be obtained if:
- The Celestial has successfully ascended early.
- The Celestial's inventory is full.
- The Celestial's time to ascend has ran out and the Eggs have expired.
They can only be obtained on Celestial Island and Magical Nexus, though they can be used on any island where a monster has an inventory.
It is currently not known exactly when the Early Ascension process becomes available. Tests on Attmoz have suggested that the Inventory of Double-Element Eggs (non-Flex) have no effect on the process's availability.
It is currently not known exactly when a player gets multiple Wildcards, though it is likely tied to how full the Inventory is, with a more full Inventory having a greater chance of success and conversely a greater chance of multiple Wildcards. Wildcards reported received have been predominantly 1 Wildcard, with few reports of receiving 3 Wildcards.
Strategy[]
Since there's a higher success of an Early Ascension succeeding with a more fully-filled Inventory, obtaining more Wildcards is best done as soon as the Early Ascension button unlocks.
Some Monsters require more Wildcards than others, while having an otherwise same associated Diamonds cost. While strategizing for this scenario is largely academic, one common scenario may be in leaving Rare Single Element Monsters for a Rare Wublin as the last to be filled; You could spend 4 Wildcards on a Rare Bona-Petite to substitute its required 4 Rare Mammott Eggs and reduce the cost by 400, or you could spend the same 4 Wildcards to substitute one of its required Rare Entbrat Eggs and reduce the cost by only 100.

Notes[]
- Wildcards are the only "currency" that has an animation in the UI.
- Wild Cards in card games are cards that can be used to represent any other card. This is analogous to the Wildcard serving the purpose of any Boxed or Zapped Monster/egg.
- In the 4.1 Showcase video, It was stated that Wildcards aren't truly considered a currency and more of a "special item".
- The message "Attempt Failed... Successfully!" when obtaining Wildcards is a reference to a popular meme.
