Thumpies was a rhythm game that released on February 17th, 2010. A remake called My Singing Monsters Thumpies later released on March 6th, 2024. Thumpies is set in a universe known as the Thumpieverse, a universe distinct from the Monster World. However, plenty of the content from the game, such as the characters, iconography, and environments, have been referenced multiple times in different ways across the My Singing Monsters franchise - most notably the inclusion of Thumpies as a Monster in the original My Singing Monsters game.
Gameplay[]
The main gameplay for Thumpies is to tap on each drum at the right time as the Thumpies collide with them. Each of the Thumpies will bounce around each drum, either from outside the screen, or from drum to drum. Unlike most rhythm games, the game detects accuracy on timing rather than a series of taps, with more points being earned for accurate timing. Each level comes with a select number of stages, which are the separate parts of each song. Each part will have Thumpies hop across the drums in a different rhythm, and the player must tap the hit drums correctly to slowly fill the progress bar up top. The bar is divided into three segments, with each one filled changing the expression of the Green Thumpie to the right from disappointed to excited. When all three segments of the bar are filled, the stage will be completed, and a "Tap to Continue" message appears, prompting the player to move onto the next stage. Each mistake made will deplete the progress bar by a bit, until it becomes empty once again.
Occasionally, differently colored Butterflies will fly across the screen. When tapped, they will be collected, signified by the Butterfly with a number over it, on the left of the progress bar. Butterflies can be used to unlock new Thumpies to use while playing. If a Thumpie collides with a Butterfly, it will eat it, causing it to disappear. Additionally, if you have any Butterflies collected, lowering the progress bar until it's empty will make them fly away, leaving you with 0 Butterflies - however, these can still be re-collected if the player is fast enough. Typically, the purple & blue Butterflies will appear the most often, with the red ones appearing the least.
There have been a total of 17 levels in the game, each with their own unique songs. An unused 18th level called OGRenD was intended to appear in the game as well, but that never ended up happening. Dave Kerr, one of the original people who worked on Thumpies, has stated he doesn't think anything was made for the level. Since the original Thumpies game has now been remastered, it is unknown if the OGRenD level will appear in the remake in a future update, as well as what its song would be.
Levels[]
*Oha-doodAh is not present in the PC version, and is exclusive to the mobile version. It also doesn't appear in Thumpies Zero, since it was added in an update that Thumpies Zero didn't receive.

In-Game[]
Miscellaneous[]
Name Origins[]
- NoObiE is a corruption of "newbie," a word often used to refer to new players in video gaming communities. This may be because it is one of the first Thumpies.
- FurFacE is self-explanatory. It is a corruption of Fur Face. This may be because FurFacE is pretty much a ball of fur.
- RawT appears to be a combination of "rot" and "raw" because RawT seems to be a rotten, zombified Thumpie.
- ReeCesS is a corruption of Recess. This is because the Thumpie is made of school supplies.
- TawooO's name references an owl painting that went "tawit-tawoo, tawit-tawee" in Mr. Dressup.
- FLipPy is a corruption of Flippy. This is due to it possessing a second face on its "flip"-side.
- RhooTz is a corruption of Roots. This is due RhooTz having plant roots sprouting out of it.
- KarrTooF's name originates from the gibberish one of the voice actors was speaking - "Ch-ch-ch-karrtoof."
- MoSH comes from the term "moshing," which means to push or slam someone, usually at live concerts, especially in the designated mosh pit.
- BoOoo is a corruption of the interjection "boo", which fits its ghostly appearance.
- Gooie is from the onomatopoeia of a baby "goo goo ga ga", and possibly also "gooey".
- ChesH's name is a shortening of "Cheshire", which refers to the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland.
- Anyanka is named after a pug Chris Elliott had at the time, which in turn was named after Anya Jenkins from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
- iziT is a corruption of "is it?". It looks like this Thumpie is shrugging.
- MacE comes from the word "mace", as its head resembles a spike mace.
- YucKLeS is a corruption of "chuckles", due to its clown-like appearance. The word "yuck" has been used to refer to a joke ("a big yuck"), and to be laughing at a joke. "Chuckles the Clown" was a minor character on The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
- ChoMph comes from the word "chomp", referring to its mechanical jaw.
- KaL's name is possibly derived from Kalon, the name of the developer who voiced it.
- Gahwg is an onomatopoeia associated with voracious eating and swallowing. Gawhg is based off a shark.
- SkwEE comes from the word “squeal”, stemming from the Thumpie's hog-like appearance.
- FwoOT is a corruption of “flute”, referring to the flutes sticking out of it.
- BuTter is likely referencing the insult “butterface”, which means somebody who has an appealing body but unappealing face (“but her face”). This is because the Thumpie has a paper bag covering its face, implying it’s unsightly.
- The song dripPLe basS is a combination of triple bass, dribble, and drip.
- Fædd means "birth" in Icelandic. According to Christopher Elliott, it's fitting because of the warm, happy, childhood-like feel of the song. Adding to this effect is its logo, which resembles a spermatazoon and a paw.
- PhAD-or-LeEns is a combination of Fat Orleans and Fat or Lean, due to the fat and lurching brass bass line.
- ÆthuRi-AwL is a corruption of ethereal, due to the song being very ghostly and ethereal.
- sTeelnuTs refers to the mechanical, steel percussion used in the song.
- GLó-RüS-biUR is called that because it sounds very glorious and triumphant.

Thumpies have been referenced a multitude of occasions inside of the My Singing Monsters franchise, through various means.
*An unused Thumpie that never became playable in the original game.

Notes[]
- Thumpies is not available for iOS 11+ due to the fact that the game is 32-bit, and iOS 11+ no longer supports 32-bit apps. Because of this, its successor is 64-bit, so it supports iOS 11+. Plus, as of September 2017, Thumpies Zero also cannot be downloaded on Apple devices running iOS 11 and up due to it being incompatible with certain iOS 11 features. Thumpies is also completely broken on Android, as the regular version links to an ad (for whatever reason), and Thumpies Zero simply displays the "connection error" screen.
- However, a version of the game for Windows XP and newer was available for $9.99 on WildTangent Games, however it has since been taken down. Henceforth, you can currently only play the original Thumpies on PC, and iPhone 4.
- Attempting to play Thumpies on Windows often zooms the game into the right corner. This can be fixed by going to Settings - Display and changing the "Scale and Layout" from 125% to 100%.
- Thumpies started production on August 2009.
- In the PC version, you can change the key bind of each drum whilst playing a level. But for some reason, it only saves on that level, which forces the player to have to change each key bind before any Thumpies drop down.
- The Thumpies' names and the song names given in the game have deliberate random capitalization.
- The only Thumpies whose names don’t follow this format are Gahwg, Anyanka, and Gooie.
- Additionally, iziT is the only Thumpie whose name starts with a lowercase letter instead of an uppercase letter. The Mythical Monster shLep is in the same situation.
- Thumpies itself used to have a functioning website, which still used the old Big Blue Bubble logo, and contained various reviews.
- Recently, the website, alongside the Wildtangent version of the game, were taken down, and the website now redirects to Big Blue Bubble's main site.
- Thumpies' main menu music was reused for a mini-game in the MSM spin-off game, My Mammott.
- To the right of the Great Tree in the mobile version, three unplayable Thumpies can be seen. One has a paper bag that looks like Rare Punkleton's over its face, named BuTter. Another Thumpie has a pencil impaling the sides of its head named ReeCesS (who, along with RawT, became the Rare Thumpies). The last one has flutes sticking out of it, named FwoOT.
- ReeCesS (along with RawT) was later used for the Rare Thumpies, while FwoOT was used for the Purple Prismatic Thumpies. Additionally, all three of these Thumpies would later become playable in the remake.
- FurFacE was the first ever Thumpie made.[citation needed]
- Mammott's shark-like Concept Art bears a resemblance to the Thumpie Gahwg, possibly inspired by it.
- The symbol for the level doO-eNDay was later reused for the Mythical Element.
- The mountains with faces seen in the cliffs area were used to create the Mountain Morsel, along with a similar decoration, Mount Knottshur. Additionally, these cliffs also appear in the Ethereal Meadow.
- A blog post made by Big Blue Bubble about making the voices of the Thumpies revealed who voiced certain Thumpies.
- Dave Kerr voiced BoOoo.
- Maggie Park voiced TawooO and Anyanka.
- Christopher Elliott voiced NoObiE, RawT, Gahwg, and KarrTooF.
- Kalon Winnik voiced YucKLeS, FLipPy, KaL, FurFacE, and RhooTz.
- Some of the Thumpies that made it into the My Singing Monsters franchise have had slight redesigns.
- FurFacE is missing its collar.
- iziT's left eye was made white with a pink pupil instead of having both eyes completely pink.
- MoSH is missing all of its rings and its bruised eye, and it also got striped fur.
- Gahwg is missing its second row of teeth.
- Anyanka's mouth opens even though it can never be seen opening in-game.
- In the level select screen, one of the trees has a carving of a heart with "DK + MP" carved in it. "DK" stands for Dave Kerr and "MP" stands for Maggie Park.
- This tree is strangely absent in the remake.
- The only collectable butterflies are purple, green, and red butterflies, however, Anyanka has a pink butterfly on its head.
- Before the game got discontinued, the background Thumpies (BuTter, FwoOT, & ReeCesS) were going to be playable.[citation needed]
- In newer versions, SkwEE’s eyes became purple, and its body became darker. The reasoning behind these changes is unknown.
- Due to the last update for the iOS version of Thumpies Zero being 1.3, iziT is completely absent from Thumpies Zero on iOS. However, the paid version of Thumpies on iOS was updated to 1.4, so iziT is present there.
- iziT, NoObiE, RhooTz, TawooO, FLipPy, KaL, MacE, and SkwEE all have official Facebook accounts. [1]
- According to FLipPy's account, they attended Thumpstill High.
- Additionally, the game also has a X (Twitter) account.
