Looks can be deceiving... and so can the Spytrap. This botanical beast grows in the dark and does its darndest to go completely unnoticed by the surrounding fauna. But once an unsuspecting creature scuttles too close, SNAP - It is suddenly ensnared! And what better to do when encased in the acoustic wonderland of a Spytrap yap than to bang out a banger? In exchange for its ward's kind company and musical talent, the host Monster happily supplies a steady drip of some of the sweetest sap ever sampled.
Monster Bio

Description[]

Spytrap is a Triple-Element Magical Monster that is found on Light Island and Magical Nexus. It was added on October 14th, 2020 during Version 3.0.1. It is best obtained by breeding Gob and Mammott. By default, its breeding time is 16 hours long. As a Triple-Elemental, Spytrap has a somewhat decent Coin production.

On Magical Nexus, Spytrap is obtained by Transposing by spending 4,000,000 Coins once fed to level 18. Its Transposing time is 1 day, 10 hours long. Unlike Light Island, Spytrap does not produce currency on Magical Nexus.

Song[]

Audio Sample:

Instrument: Persian Battle Drums

Spytrap's contribution to its islands' songs is making the sound of Taiko drums, similar to Drummidary, Rare Pummel in Composer, Mushaboom, and Sporerow. It sounds more like Persian percussive drums than the taiko drums themselves.

VSTs[]

Virtual Studio Technology is an audio plugin software that has libraries of sound effects and synthesized instruments. Within these libraries are SoundFonts, which are the individual effects and instruments themselves. The Monster-Handlers utilize several VSTs to create the sounds of instrumental and sometimes vocal Monsters.

VST: PLAY
Sound library: EastWest Stormdrum 2
Path: SD2 Pro new material
SoundFont: Persian Battle Drums

Breeding[]

Spytrap can be bred with the elements Plant (Plant Element), Cold (Cold Element) and Light (Light Element). Breeding combinations are as follows:

Of these, Gob+Mammott is the best combination, as failing and breeding a Mammott lets you retry the combo almost instantly. Furcorn+Fluoress is a close second, because it has low average times in case of breeding failure.

Spytrap can also be bred in a breeding failure. Some combinations that result in a Spytrap in a breeding failure include:

(Good choice, very small chance of getting Blow't. May also result in Whiz-bang when available.)

Likes[]

Every Monster has different things that they like. For every unique object that they like that's placed near the Monster, the Monster's happiness will increase by 25%. Placing more than one of the same liked item near a Monster won't increase its happiness by an additional amount. If there's a Unity Tree on the Island, items don't need to be near the Monster. Below are the things liked by Spytrap:

See the Likes page to view a complete list of all Monsters' likes.

Monsters Who Like It[]

The following Monster(s) will increase their happiness by 25% when being placed near Spytrap or when Spytrap and a Unity Tree are on the Island. These may or may not also be Spytrap's likes as well:

Earning Rate and Maximum Income[]

Earning rate is in Coins per minute and depends on Happiness % (Likes increase Happiness) and Monster Level. Each Monster also has a maximum amount of income it can hold at a time. Increasing the Monster's Level also increases this limit.

Feeding Monsters[]

Each Monster needs to be fed four times before it reaches the next level. Increasing the Monster's level increases the Coins earned per minute, as well as the maximum Coins earned.

Egg Consumption[]

While trying to breed other Monsters (particularly Monsters with a very low chance of breeding), the following Celestials and Vessels can be used to "dispose of" Spytrap eggs immediately instead of putting them into a Nursery and having that Nursery not be available. Note that doing this for Rare Wublins will cause the Wublin to stop producing currency and the eggs will not expire.

Note that Monster eggs can only be "disposed of" before awakening Celestials and Vessels; afterwards those Monsters will not accept any eggs. Also note that Monsters to which you have already disposed the number of Spytrap eggs that it accepts, will no longer be available as a "recycle bin" for such eggs. Awakened Celestials only accept eggs during their corresponding Celestial month.

Possible Monster Names[]

  • "Oddrey" could possibly be a reference to Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors.

Notes[]

  • Spytrap's name is a mix of the words "spy" and "trap". The word "spy" might be a play on the fact that the trapped creature resembles a spider (spy -> spider), while "trap" might refer to the Monster itself being a plant that traps other creatures inside. It may also be intended to sound like "fly trap."
  • Spytrap was previously teased in the Light Island Login screen. It could be found at the bottom of the screen.
  • Spytrap could possibly be based on the symbiosis between the Roridula gorgonias (a protocarnivorous plant) and the Pameridea roridulae (a bug).
  • Up until Bulbo's release, Spytrap was the only Triple-Element Monster with two possible breeding combinations.
  • When Spytrap first released, its portrait, and Fan Kit image had an earlier design, with the Monster inside of it having two arms instead of four. It also had some other minor differences, such as the stem having less detail, and the bulb only being one layer, though these weren't in the Fan Kit image. This was fixed a few days later.
  • As shown by Fiddlement's teaser, Spytrap represents the color red.
  • Spytrap was the first Light Element Monster, as well as the first Monster on Light Island, to only have one track. The second was Bulbo.
  • As seen in the newest trailer for the sixth magical island, Magical Nexus, Spytrap, alongside Bridg-it, cannot walk. They are also both shown to be transported by a floating chair.
