Strategy

As an Air (), Plant () and Water () Monster, Spunge is naturally strong against Cold () and Water () Monsters and attacks, but is weak against Plant (), Air () and Earth (). All of Spunge's moves are strong against Bowgart, but all of Reedling's moves are strong against it. Spunges below level 15 are not good for battling Dandidoos or Reedlings because even though Spunge has a musical move unlocked at the beginning, its only elemental moves are Plant () and Water (), which are weak against these Monsters. Spunges are also good for distracting Maws, Bowgarts below level 15 and Deedges below level 10, as they have no strong moves against Spunge. Spunge has no costumes with the Earth () or Cold () moves, so it misses out on dealing strong damage against Cybops.

Costume Choices:

• Perfect Hennin replaces "Pulpy Pucker" with an Air () move. This costume, however, is redundant as it has the same power as its natural Air move "Shrill Siffleur", making it only useful for Spunges level 10 to 14. It also takes away Spunge's ability to easily deal with Water () type Monsters.
• Wetsuit Whimsy replaces the Air-elemental move "Shrill Siffleur" with a Water-elemental coverage move with more power. At level 15, this costume is good against Riff and its derivatives that have Cold (), as it is stronger than its natural Water () move "Take Off, Hoser", making the latter move redundant, but it also takes away its Air () attack, which could be detrimental when facing Plant () type Monsters. When equipped however, it is not good for battling Dandidoos and Reedlings because although Spunge has a musical move unlocked at the beginning, its only elemental moves it has are Water () and Plant (), which are weak against these Monsters.
• Starry Eyes replaces "Take Off, Hoser" with a Musical coverage move. Although the move is stronger than Wild Whistle, it is not good for battling Cybops and PomPoms because although Spunge has two Musical moves, its only elemental moves it has are Plant () and Air (), which are weak against these Monsters. It also gives Spunges below level 10 no elemental coverage.

Notes

• When using Shrill Siffleur, Spunge whistles notes from Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger."
• When using Pulpy Pucker, Spunge whistles a section of the intro to Bobby McFerrin's “Don’t Worry Be Happy”.
• Update 3.2.0 permanently changed the price of many costumes. Wetsuit Whimsy changed from 85 (discounted) and 127 (full price) to 30 (discounted) and 45 (full price).
• Perfect Hennin is overall the least used teleporting costume for a battle quest. It is so far only used for Bat on the 'Bergs.
