Strategy[]
As a Plant () Monster, Shrubb is naturally strong against Water () Monster attacks, but it is weak against Air () attacks instead of resisting them because of its accompanying Earth ( elemental typing and weakness, since weaknesses take priority over strengths. It is also weak to () attacks, but its natural moveset, even without costume modifications, covers both of its weaknesses.
Costume choice:
- Drool Noodles replaces Glottal Grounding. It is strong against one of Shrubb’s main weaknesses Cold (). When equipped however, it is not good for battling Dandidoos and Reedlings because Shrubb although has a musical move unlocked at the beginning, its only elemental moves it has are Water () and Plant (), which are weak against these monsters.
- Ire Hydrant is an extra Move, which is also strong against one of Shrubb’s main weaknesses, Cold (). In addition, it does not replace Glottal Grounding, and is much more powerful a move, so if you're able to obtain the Ire Hydrant costume, it is recommended to use that over Drool Noodles for these reasons. With Ire Hydrant, Glottal Grounding, and Mahnie on Trees in the same set, Shrubb would have the exact scope of elemental coverage as a Pummel.
Notes[]
- The "Conehead" costume may be a reference to Plants vs. Zombies, a game with an enemy zombie called a "Conehead" which also wears a cone on its head.
- Update 3.2.0 permanently changed the price of many costumes. Drool Noodles changed from 75 (discounted) and 112 (full price) to 20 (discounted) and 30 (full price).
- The "Thumpiebait Cap" costume is a reference to the SummerSong 2018 trailer "The Preposterous Case Of The Pesky Prankster", in which Shrubb and other monsters can be seen wearing the same cap.
- Ire Hydrant is overall the strongest Water move in terms of the move's power.
- Despite Thumpiebait Cap being a SummerSong costume and Shrubb is present on Earth Island, it is not used for Fun in the Sun.
