My Singing Monsters

Found much less frequently than the common Riff, this Rare Monster nonetheless offers great insights into the habits and behaviours of this secretive species. For instance, it's now known that all Riffs share a symbiotic relationship with their guitars, which are actually living creatures as well! Riffs exchange the foods they collect with their toes for whispered messages of affirmation about their musical performances. Go team.

Description[]

Rare Riff is a Quad-Element Rare Monster. It was added on May 8th, 2015 during Version 1.3.3. As a Rare Monster, it is only available at select times. It is best obtained by breeding or by purchasing from the StarShop. Its breeding combination is the same as its Common variant. By default, its breeding time is 1 day, 6 hours, and 30 minutes long. Rare Riff has a great Coin production, which can be useful before getting its Epic variant or other Monsters with higher Coin production.

Breeding[]

Rare Riff has the same breeding combinations as the Common Riff, using Monsters that combine to provide all four elements, Cold, Air, Water and Earth without repeating any element.

The following pairs of Double-Element Monsters can be used to breed a Rare Riff:

However, the combination of a Triple-Element with Single-Element Monster has higher rate of success for getting a Rare Riff instead of one of the parents as the outcome:

Of these, Congle+Noggin is the best combination, as failing and breeding a Noggin lets you retry the combo almost instantly. T-Rox+Tweedle is a close second, because it has low average times in case of failure.

There is also a small chance of producing a Riff or Rare Riff from a failed breeding attempt, using an Riff and a non-Single-Element Monster.

The Rare version of any Monster can be used for breeding instead of the Common version. In addition, it is possible to breed a Rare Riff and a Common Riff together. The outcome will always be a Riff, and if a Rare Riff is available at that time, it may result from this combination.

Availability[]

For a list of when this Monster has been available, see: Breeding Availability

Rare Riff, like all Rare Natural and Fire Monsters, is only available for breeding and buying some of the time during special events. Examples of such events:

  • All Monsters that appear on a certain Island.
  • All Monsters with a specific element.
  • All Monsters with a specific theme.
  • A seemingly random selection of a handful of Monsters.

In particular, they are likely to appear during Special Occasions.

The exception is Rare Fire Monsters on Amber Island. These are evolved in the Crucible, and are available any time after the Crucible is unlocked (by having 15 unique Monsters on Amber Island).

Likes[]

Every Monster has different things that they like. For every unique object that they like that's placed near the Monster, the Monster's happiness will increase by 25%. Placing more than one of the same liked item near a Monster won't increase its happiness by an additional amount. If there's a Unity Tree on the Island, items don't need to be near the Monster. Below are the things liked by Rare Riff:

Egg Consumption[]

Main article: Zapping

While trying to breed other Monsters (particularly Monsters with a very low chance of breeding), the following Rare Wublins and Celestials can be used to "dispose of" Rare Riff eggs immediately, instead of putting them into a Nursery and having that Nursery not be available. Note that doing this for Rare Wublins will cause the Wublin to stop producing currency and the eggs will not expire.

Note that Monster eggs can only be "disposed of" before awakening Rare Wublins and Celestials; afterwards those Monsters will not accept any eggs. Also note that Monsters to which you have already disposed the number of Rare Riff eggs that it accepts, will no longer be available as a "recycle bin" for such eggs. Rare Wublins have no time limit, and their egg inventories cannot be reset. Awakened Celestials only accept eggs during their corresponding Celestial month. When being zapped into Celestials as a Flex Egg, Rare Riff is not required for the Celestial to ascend.

Notes[]

  • A teaser showing Rare Riff feeding its guitar cookies demonstrates the kind of symbiotic behavior that Rare Riff (and by extension, Common and Epic Riffs) share with their guitar.
  • Riff and Rare Riff have reversed color schemes: while Riff is orange and has a green guitar, Rare Riff is green and has an orange guitar.
