“ | If the Element of Poison has a bit of a questionable reputation, this could be traced back to Rare Humbugs. Eschewing the typically amicable attitude of the Common Ethereal, they seem to delight in injecting their venom into poor Torchle Trees. The joke's on them, though - the trees actually lap it up and grow stronger as a result! | ” |

Description[]
Rare Humbug is a Single-Element Rarethereal Monster. It was added on May 14th, 2016 during Version 1.4.1. As a Rare Monster, it is only available at select times. It is best obtained by breeding Quarrister and a Triple-Element Monster. By default, its breeding time is 1 day, 21 hours, and 30 minutes long. Rare Humbug has a great Coin production on Earth Island that is bested by very few Monsters. It has Coin rates comparable with Rare Quarrister to Epic Quarrister depending on your Coin collection schedule.
Rare Humbug can either be teleported to Ethereal Island when fed to level 15, or bred there with any combination that would result in a Humbug. It will take 12 hours, 38 minutes, and 15 seconds to breed. Like all Rare Single-Element Ethereals, Rare Humbug has excellent Shard production, bested only by other Single-Element Rare and Epic Monsters.
Song[]
- See Humbug.
Breeding[]
Like all other Rares, Rare Humbug is only available for breeding during short time periods announced in the game.
Breeding on Earth Island[]
Like its Common variant, Rare Humbug can be bred on Earth Island using a combination of Quarrister and a Triple-Element Monster. Possible combinations:
- + Quarrister and Clamble
- + Quarrister and Thumpies
- + Quarrister and PomPom
- + Quarrister and Reedling
Failed breeding results in a parent Monster, or a Common Humbug. The Rare Humbug's chances of breeding are less than the Common Humbug's. Wishing Torches will increase the chance of success, and so will using high level Monsters. The Rare version of any Monster can be used for breeding instead of the Common version.
Breeding on Ethereal Island[]
On Ethereal Island, breeding a Humbug with any other Monster can result in a Rare Humbug instead of a Common Humbug. Note that it is better to breed Humbug with another Single-Element Ethereal rather than a Double-Element Ethereal, as this gives less chance of getting a Double-Element Ethereal, which takes a long time to breed and incubate. Possible combinations:
Once a Rare Humbug is obtained, breeding it with a regular Humbug to get more Rare Humbugs will avoid getting Single-Element or Double-Element Ethereals in the way, as long as Rare Humbug is still available.

- For a list of when this Monster has been available, see: Breeding Availability

Likes[]
Every Monster has different things that they like. For every unique object that they like that's placed near the Monster, the Monster's happiness will increase by 25%. Placing more than one of the same liked item near a Monster won't increase its happiness by an additional amount. If there's a Unity Tree on the Island, items don't need to be near the Monster. Below are the things liked by Rare Humbug:
- Humbug (requires level 9)
- Pipes of Cicado (level 10)
- Trumplite (level 11)
- Yum Yum Tree (level 18) ()

Notes[]
- It appears that the Large Trees in Earth Island are called Torchle Trees, according to the teaser. The "unknown" tree appeared to have a gooey green substance on it, which matched the description of the Rare Humbug.
- It's possible they have a temper. If one looks closely on the Torchle Tree, they'll see a message that reads "Don't bug me".
