Strategy[]
There's a lot of ways to beat Colossingum Quests. (as long as there in the requirements of the quest) However there are some patterns in some of the quests that may assist you in beating them and passing through the Colossingum faster.
- Monster Quests (Allow Choice Monsters)
It's highly recommended that you get a higher-level Monster, since some Quests allow you to have a choice of a Monster as the requirements have already been met (e.g. Trick-or-Treat requires Punkleton, but after the 3rd stage you have to bring a Monster that you choose, but you still need Punkleton as a requirement for the whole questline. Another slot for another Monster that you can choose also becomes available later in the questline, though this can be different for other Quests). Getting a higher level Monster will allow you to breeze through some of these Quests, but you can still bump in challenges depending on what Monster you chose and what level that Monster is.
Level 15+ Monsters that are Quad Naturals, Seasonal Monsters, or Single or Double Ethereals are highly recommended due to their higher health and attack power.
2. Monster Quests (RNG chance)
In the Colossingum there is a lot of RNG, considering that the bot has to pick between all the moves a Monster has at their specific level, and it can occasionally mess up (e.g. picking a weak move even though it has a strong one). For some Quests, you have to use one specific Monster, and usually the opponent on the last 1v1 level will be the same Monster you're required to use. It can differ, but it's most likely that the Monster will be level 10. With this information, it's good to know that you can beat the Monsters even if yours is way lower level (5-7 range depends on moves and the Monster in general). If you see that you got close to winning a fight or somewhere near winning, try again and see if there was any bad or good RNG that occurred (if the Monster used a lot of weak, normal, or strong attacks). With this information, you can learn the move set of the Monsters and which attacks may cause you to restart the level, and eventually get an attempt with good RNG and possibly win. The reason you want to use this strategy is so that you don't have to wait for Monsters to complete training, because a lot of the Quests have you stop using some Monsters for a long time (e.g. Single-Element Naturals won't be useful inside later Quests, so there's no point in trying to train them up all the way) .
Different Quest Types Recommended Levels:
- In some Quests with a single required Monster facing against a Monster around level 10, level 7 should work most of the time, unless you get extremely unlucky, since you always get the first attack.
- In some Quests, you're locked to using Monsters with a certain Element. In these Quests, look at your opponents' Elements and try to see if you can bring any Monsters within the requirements that can deal good damage to the opponent. If you don't, you may also want to try Costumes, as they might have a move that could help you.
3. Monster Quests (Costumes)
As you progress through the Colossingum, you will unlock many things, but the most significant things are Costumes. Whether you're using them to spark up your Islands, or just to make your Monsters look nice, they also have very good uses in the Colossingum. Some Costumes do not change your moveset at all in the Colossingum (e.g. Seasonal Series Costumes) Some Costumes change your moves, though sometimes it can be a normal attack that gets put in, which isn't the best type of attack to have. The main Costumes to focus on are the ones you give your Monster previously impossible to have elemental moves (e.g. Entbrat's "Horn Warmers" Costume). Monsters like Entbrat are stuck to their elemental moves normally, but with the use of Costumes, a Monster can replace moves for another move's Element attack. However, it is warned that this heavily varies on the Quest itself, which Monsters you're allowed to use, the opponents' weaknesses and strengths, and the moves you bring to counter them. It is likely you'll come across quests where it's useful to take off Costumes. The key to using Costumes is the damage and/or stronger attacks they provide. So, look at any Monsters' Elements and see if you have Costumes for the Monsters you selected that are strong against the opponents' Elements.
4. Monster Quests (Leveling)
If you seem to be struggling with Quests, you should level up your Monsters. This is obvious, though there's many things to known when it comes to how level affects battle, and there can be a lot of factors. The leveling system consists of 20 levels, each progressively giving your Monster more attack power and stamina. With this in mind, all of your moves will be leveled up to do more damage, and your Costume moves' damage will be affected too. The fact that you get the first turn in every battle you play gives your team a huge advantage. This easily allows you to stay at weaker levels but still succeed. However, the level to win ratio is tricky with the huge amount of RNG involved with the Colossingum. There are some battles where lower-level Monsters can easily win, but once you start entering into Ethereal battles where the Ethereal Element Monsters can use healing moves, this makes the system a lot trickier to find something that can succeed in battle when using lower levels. If something isn't working out after various attempts, try bringing up the level of any of your Monsters that you used for the failed battle if necessary.
If you haven't, it's highly recommended that you check out the Colossingum section of this wiki, since it has some more useful information and might make things clearer when it comes to fighting. If you want to know more about one of you Monsters, go to their respective article, and click the "Battle" section for damage and healing, and weaknesses and strengths.
