Each island except Gold, The Colossingum, Magical Nexus, Wublin, Celestial, Composer, and Tribal Island have obstacles which can be removed for space and for XP. You'll probably need to clear away some of the obstacles to make room for monsters, decorations, and structures. There is also a Game Center award for clearing an island of obstacles. Clearing obstacles can be sped up at the cost of 1 for each hour or part thereof remaining (i.e. cost is rounded up).
After an obstacle is removed, it can be restored through the use of Diamonds since update 1.3.2. Since the original trees and rocks are decorated for the islands' Special Occasions, you may wish to keep at least a few of them around. Other trees you purchase as decorations for monster likes (e.g. the Piney Tree) don't change for the special occasions.
Since Version 1.3.2, it's possible to buy new obstacles from the Market (under "Decorations") by spending diamonds. Trees and rocks you buy in this manner can be resized like other decorations, and can be resold immediately — you do not need to wait for them to be cleared.
Since Version 2.2.3, on October 2018, all all-year-round purchasable Obstacle decorations are not affected by any events such as Spooktacle. Instead, themed Obstacle decorations are purchasable during the period they are available, but their themed decorative features will last indefinitely.
Clearing Obstacles[]
There are initially 13 Small Trees, 7 Medium Trees, 4 Big Trees, 19 Small Rocks, 12 Medium Rocks and 5 Big Rocks on each Island.

Obtaining Obstacles[]
You can buy obstacles in the Decorations tab of the Market
Season Variations[]
Original Obstacles not cleared will turn into Seasonal variations when a Seasonal Island Skin is activated. When the Seasonal Event ends, the Obstacles will revert to their original form, unless the Seasonal Skin is purchased. Seasonal Obstacles can also be bought in the Market, and these stay in their Seasonal state all year round. Likewise, Obstacles that were purchased in their original state will not be affected by Seasonal Events. Seasonal Obstacles cost double the amount of their normal counterparts, but have the same size.

Descriptions[]
Normal Obstacles
“ | It's a [Small/Medium/Big] Tree. Don't worry; removed trees will be taken far away and gently replanted. | ” |
— removable Tree |
“ | It's a [Small/Medium/Big] Rock. Removed rocks will be taken far away to wonderful new homes. | ” |
— removable Rock |
“ | Remember how we said that trees and rocks that are removed from your islands will find new homes elsewhere? Good news - these are somebody else's trees and rocks and your islands are their new homes! Recycling is awesome. | ” |
— purchased Tree/Rock |
Mirror Natural Island Obstacles
“ | Dark matter from the Rift is responsible for the sticky pink residue draped on this tree, from when the Ethereal energies of the pocket dimension leaked into the main dimension of the Mirror timeline. | ” |
— Mirror Tree (Natural Islands) |
“ | In the Mirror timeline, the Ethereal energies of the pocket dimension have encroached upon the main dimension. When they did so, dark matter from the Rift left behind the sticky pink residue found on rocks like this one. | ” |
— Mirror Rock (Natural Islands) |
Mirror Magical Island Obstacles
“ | It's nice to think that even after the upheaval of Outer Islands crashing into the Mirror timeline, this tree not only survived, but was able to incorporate some new aspects into its Magical Island aesthetic. | ” |
— Mirror Tree (Magical Islands) |
“ | Visual elements from both the Magical Island Titan and the conjoining Outer Island are visible in this rock; a product of two worlds previously thought impossible. | ” |
— Mirror Rock (Magical Islands) |
Spooktacle Obstacles
“ | Someone has strewn toilet paper all over the trees to celebrate the spooky season... we'd bet our bottom Diamond it was the Oaktopus. | ” |
— Spooktacle Tree |
“ | Rocks aren't the most talented at dress-up - the most they've managed is to become a little darker. However, the local arachnids have offered a hand (they have many of them) to add some cobwebs to complete the look. | ” |
— Spooktacle Rock |
Festival of Yay Obstacles
“ | Deck the trees of Cold Island with tinsel and ornaments to make the joyous spirit of the holidays last. | ” |
— Yay Tree |
“ | There's this popular opinion going around that rocks make undesirable presents... this rock is here to prove otherwise. Look at that lovely bow, who could possibly refuse? | ” |
— Yay Rock |
Season of Love Obstacles
“ | Every year around this time, Air Island's Yucka Tree thistles take on the rosy hue of love and whisper romantic poetry to each other by rustling their branches. | ” |
— Love Tree |
“ | Even the rocks are trying to break in to the love scene... I'm told no pebble can resist a good 'boulder smoulder. | ” |
— Love Rock |
Eggs-Travaganza Obstacles
“ | Looks like the Blabbit's handiwork. I wonder if the Monsters that will one day hatch from these eggs will be colorful as well? | ” |
— Eggy Tree |
“ | Many theories exist to explain the origin of these strange statues. Some suggest that they were deposited by some ancient race of Monsters. Others contend that they depict the famous Shellbeat musician Gene Krabba. I guess we'll never know for sure. | ” |
— Moai Rock |
SummerSong Obstacles
“ | The normally bent and burnt Torchle Trees of Earth Island have been festooned with summery attire. They really put the hot in 'hot fun in the summetime. | ” |
— Summer Tree |
“ | Not to be left out, the rocks of Earth Island got all summered up as well. Now they look absolutely delectable! Be warned, though, it's only skin deep - they still taste like rocks. | ” |
— Summer Rock |
Feast-Ember Obstacles
“ | The rustic charm of these Feast-Ember Trees brings to mind a freshly-baked Pie on a cool afternoon. Sure, Fire Haven never get cool, but a Monster can dream! | ” |
— Feast-Ember Tree |
“ | You may be tempted to jump in these crunchy leaf piles, but you better think twice. They're still Rocks, after all! | ” |
— Feast-Ember Rock |
Beat Hereafter Obstacles
“ | Because the soil of Bone Island has a hard time supporting flowers other than the cempasúchil, beautiful metallic blossoms have been affixed to the unusual 'trees' of the underground habitat. | ” |
— Beat Hereafter Tree |
“ | Crystal sugar from deposits in the stalactites and stalagmites of Bone Island are sourced to create the sugar skulls which adorn these rock formations. | ” |
— Beat Hereafter Rock |
Crescendo Moon Obstacles
“ | Mushaboom's green thumbs (or whatever you want to call them) have been busy helping this little plant to thrive! The 'lucky bamboo' grove isn't actually bamboo at all, but a species called Mon-drake-aena, which is said to bring luck in the coming year. | ” |
— Crescendo Moon Tree |
“ | When you're setting a resolution for the new year, you can use all the luck you can get! That's why branches of this special red fortune fruit have been arranged in gilded stone vases (and the best part: they're artificial so the luck doesn't run out!) | ” |
— Crescendo Moon Rock |
Cloverspell Obstacles
“ | So that's where Ffidyll sources the wood for its instrument from! These 'Treefoils' can only grow around the time of the vernal equinox, and afterwards the fallen timber is hewn to fashion the Seasonal's fiddle. | ” |
— Cloverspell Tree |
“ | Is it me… or did that rock just move? The magic that hangs heavy in the air during Cloverspell enchants the long-dormant trolls, gnomes and sprites of Faerie Island and allows them to shift their positions every once in a while - what a relief it must be to able to stretch one's limbs after so long! | ” |
— Cloverspell Rock |
Echoes of Eco Obstacles
“ | The favorable conditions of the higher plane allow many species of tree from the Greatfruit Grove to thrive. Even at different stages of their life cycles, Plantelope, Halleberry and Scorchberry trees all offer up sumptuous, ambrosial fruits of indescribable flavor. | ” |
— Echoes of Eco Tree |
“ | As if by some herbological miracle, plant life erupts from the Amber carvings strewn about the island. Perhaps it was stimulated by the life-force of the multiversal trees, or else by the rocks' special similarity to the physiology of the Fire Elemental. | ” |
— Echoes of Eco Rock |
Perplexplore Obstacles
“ | These already stunning pieces of blown glass are now the perfect merger of art and science! In need of field equipment on the go? It's as simple as plucking what you need from the tree, as you would any flower. | ” |
— Perplexplore Tree |
“ | Maintaining a strong sense of direction and knowing the time of day are integral aspects of any successful exploration. Whether it's maps, sundials or compasses, these items are never in short supply when these handy objects are around. | ” |
— Perplexplore Rock |
Life-Formula Obstacles
“ | Prototypes of the trees in the pocket dimension were 'mocked up' using plasmic Krystillium suspended in place by Electricity, not unlike fulgurites. While they're a little unsettling, they're perfectly at home on the eerily otherworldly Ethereal Island. | ” |
— Life-Formula Tree |
“ | These sculptures represent early drafts of Monsters designed by the Colossals… but unlike Monculus, they never progressed to the animation stage. They stand as a testament to the ingenuity of their creators, and double as containers for valuable crystal ores. | ” |
— Life-Formula Rock |
SkyPainting Obstacles
“ | The usual xanthous glow of Phosphora's 'trees' has been dimmed so as not to compete with the impossibly beautiful craftwork that now adorns their branches. They're the perfect microcosmic reflection of the spectacularly-sized fireworks erupting in the background. | ” |
— SkyPainting Tree |
“ | These multi-faceted formations remind us of the colors and configuration of the Prisments that encircled the ancient Prism Gate. Coincidence? | ” |
— SkyPainting Rock |
MindBoggle Obstacles
“ | Even though these objects continue to defy categorization as proper 'trees', they are at least getting in the spirit of MindBoggle by curling up with a good book to read or a brain-teaser to solve. Despite the fact that they are seemingly eyeless, we're told the glasses still help. | ” |
— MindBoggle Tree |
“ | The many eyes of Cruv'laapht have joined the summer reading sensation, but it's a shame that they're mostly farsighted, because it means they have to rely or[sic] magnifying glasses or monocles. Nothing can deter them, however - where there's a will, there's a way! | ” |
— MindBoggle Rock |
Vegetable Medley Obstacles
“ | Harvesting the bounty growing from these trees may seem innocent, but remember: you're basically plucking the Harvherd Titan's hair. Ugh, toma-totally grody! | ” |
— Vegetable Tree |
“ | So if the Harvherd Titan is composed of fruits and veggies, what does that make these rocks? Skin tater-tags? Ingrown pears? Oh my gourd! | ” |
— Vegetable Rock |
Sweti Settlement Obstacles
“ | Swetis have evolved conical tree-like growths to offer brave travelers extra footholds on their journey. Hanging colorful flags adds extra visibility in whiteout coniditions. Just don't look down! | ” |
— Settlement Tree |
“ | The Cliffmunk critters call these rocks home. The domed temples make a cozy getaway from the blizzards that befall the Settlement whenever a Sweti scratches its itchy scalp. | ” |
— Settlement Rock |
Gigacheep Nest Obstacles
“ | Need a place to stay the night? Look no further than the Cheep and Cheerful family of hotels, motels and inns! The bigger the tree, the better the star rating! | ” |
— Nest Tree |
“ | These charming little nests were once home to great Gigacheep flegdlings! Now that they're all grown up, the nests make perfect starter homes for other furthered friends looking to start a family of their own. | ” |
— Nest Rock |
Glubber Lagoon Obstacles
“ | The waters surrounding the mysterious Glubber Lagoon have their own chemical composition, courtesy of the Glubber's, um... secretions. These conditions nurture unique vegetation found nowhere else in the living ocean! | ” |
— Lagoon Tree |
“ | Glubbers covet treasure above all else, yet the saline depts of the living ocean do not make the most hospitable storage space. While these treasures may have corroded, they have since assumed a new role as hiding spots for shy sea creatures. | ” |
— Lagoon Rock |
Temple of Hahoo Obstacles
“ | These elaborate stone structures are complex traps designed to only admit adventures clever enough to solve their puzzles. Just what was Hahoo guarding behind these devices? No one has been quick-witted enough to find out. | ” |
— Temple Tree |
“ | Excavating the Temple's sands has uncovered a number of intriguing artifacts and inscriptions of ancient origin. Just how ancient, you ask? Well, if we could read them, maybe we'd know! | ” |

Notes[]
- The Eggs-Travaganza 2020 trailer implies that the Eggs-Travaganza rocks are sentient.
- All islands' obstacles retain the names "tree" and "rock" despite many of them not actually being those things, including Fire Haven's trees being candelabras and Fire Oasis' obstacles being glass sculptures.
- The trees on Air Island, Earth Island, and Amber Island are the only obstacles with official names - they are called "Yucka Trees", “Torchle Trees”, and "Green Trees" respectively.
- All of the Natural Islands use the same design for rocks, with some island-themed differences (Cold Island has snow, Water Island has coral, etc)
- The trees on Cold Island appear to be the Plant Island trees without leaves, as evidenced by the small tree's leaves still clinging on.
- The small, medium and big rocks on Faerie Island resemble fairytale creatures - a sprite, gnome and troll respectively.
- The obstacles on Fire Oasis, Psychic Island, and Light Island make unique sounds when you remove them.
- The trees on Amber Island are the same trees that are found on the Plant Lands of the Continent.
- The rocks on Amber Island appear to resemble Kayna, with the small rock being Kayna's leg, the medium rock being its wrist and hand, and the large rock being the top of it’s head.
- The description of the Cloverspell rocks imply that they are sentient and able to move.
- The Life-Formula rocks are actually prototype Monsters, named Lowb, Bogle, and Tunefor.
- The Echoes of Eco seasonal trees on Amber Island are taken from another game made by Big Blue Bubble called Greatfruit Grove.
- The "Mon-drake-aena" mentioned in the Crescendo Moon trees description is a portmanteau of 'mon-drake' and 'dracaena'.
- The "lucky bamboo" also mentioned in the trees bio references the Dracaena sanderiana, a plant called the "lucky bamboo"
- The only islands without obstacles are Gold Island, The Colossingum, Composer Island, Tribal Island, Celestial Island, Wublin Island, and Magical Nexus.
