This article shows information about the official policies of the My Singing Monsters Wiki. Please read this page, as it details how the wiki works, how you can contribute, or what kind of behavior is allowed on the wiki.

Welcome to the My Singing Monsters Wiki! This page details the guidelines for behavior and interacting with other editors/users on the wiki. For our other policy pages, refer to the following below:

  • Editing Guidelines - for guidelines on content added to the wiki and basic norms when making edits
  • User Rights Policy - how to obtain different user rights and how those with elevated rights should act.
  • File Policy - Details how files are categorized and what is acceptable to be uploaded
  • Fanon - Information about Fanon content on the wiki

And last of all, more of the policies around all wikis around Fandom can be found here, though we enforce some that do come from Fandom.

Behavior

Following the Rules

If an admin or moderator tells you to stop doing something, stop doing it.  If you continue, you're not likely to get another warning before being blocked from editing and posting. While it's okay to politely question why a rule is in place, if it is unclear, being rude or intentionally clueless will not help your case. Each rule does have a sensible reason for existing.

Keep it Family Friendly

My Singing Monsters is a game played by people of all ages, with a large young audience. Although Fandom requires users to be at least 13 years old, anyone at any age can read any content on the wiki without an account. Also note that wiki content can be viewed outside of the website through external search engines and apps. Because of these factors, we have a strict family friendly policy. We also find that regardless of age, these guidelines help keep discussion more civil.

The following falls under this rule:

  • Profanity, slurs, or abusive language is not permitted. Excessive cover-up swearing is also not permitted either, whether it be through direct euphemisms or through covering by other keyboard characters. This can lead to a block especially if this is done to bypass our Special:AbuseFilter or Special:DiscussionsAbuseFilter.
  • NSFW and gore will also not be tolerated here, and will typically result in a block.

Treat Others with Respect

Being open minded to other's opinions and keeping discussion civil is important. Rude or hostile behavior will not be tolerated. Escalating this behavior to repeatedly harass or annoy others will result in a block. This includes personal insults and "scream text" (such as using all-caps in order to shout at a user). If you see someone being rude, don't be rude back. Instead contact a moderator to come deal with them.

Offensive behavior or hate is also not acceptable. This includes racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia*, ageism, anti-religion, or ethnically offensive. Interrogating people about their orientation or gender identity is also not acceptable. People deserve to live their life without being viewed as some weird thing to prod at. Additionally, these sort of conversations are not appropriate here.

*Please use people's correct pronouns. If you are unsure or don't remember, they/them is acceptable for anybody. If someone misgenders you, politely correct them. Since in English, singular they/them can be used for anyone regardless of gender (or lack thereof), do not get mad at its use. Additionally, making fun of neopronouns by creating your own fake ones is not okay.

Sensitive Topics

Sensitive topics like race, religion, gender, politics, or war should not be discussed on this wiki. These sorts of topics are sensitive to some individuals and can cause conflicts.

Online Safety

FANDOM's policies prohibit the use of their services by those under the age of digital consent 13 in most places, (16 in the European Economic Area). If you are underage, please refrain from using FANDOM until you are of age. Any users identified as underage by moderators and admins will be blocked and/or have their FANDOM account terminated. Doxing others is not okay, all proof of an underage user should be traced back to something they said on Fandom or a Social media linked through their profile.

To further clarify, doxing encompasses other identifiable information, such as real names, addresses, phone numbers, medical history, or private information. Sharing these things is NOT allowed, and is even illegal in many jurisdictions. Additionally, the My Singing Monsters wiki identifies posting other personal information obtained through "cyber-stalking" to be considered a form of doxing. An example of this is information from a personal Facebook page, or shared from a public account linked to a user's real name, rather than their online username. This especially applies to prominent members of the My Singing Monsters community, like Monster-Handlers and YouTube creators.

Although some Monster-Handlers do appear in public videos, it is important to remember that they are Big Blue Bubble (BBB) employees with private lives. Images of BBB employees should not be shared on the wiki, unless it is from a public video, or you have written permission to share the photo.

Behavior on Discussions

The following guidelines refer mainly to Discussions, but can also refer to Blogs and User subpages.

Related to My Singing Monsters

Posts should be related to My Singing Monsters or Wiki editing in some way. Discussion about fan created content and the people that play the game is acceptable. However, posts about your favorite wiki users should be avoided. These "popularity contests" can make people feel left out or get repetitive. Consider complimenting your wiki-friends on their Message Wall instead. You are also allowed to announce your arrival/wiki-versary, but it should be more than just a sentence. You can also make posts announcing your departure, as long as it's not a rant about the state of the wiki or moderation.

Spam

Posts and replies should not be a random image, emoji, or word with no context. Try to make posts that provoke conversation. Replies should stick to the topic of the post- if you think of something unrelated to a post, maybe you can create a new post of your own. Reposts also are considered spam. Posts should additionally not solicit spam replies, such as asking people to list off multiple things.

Friend Requests

You are permitted to post Friend requests, Wishing Torch requests, or Tribe requests. However, you must add sufficient information about your request before you post anything related to Friend Codes, otherwise they will be deleted. Just as on the Friend Codes page, don't ask people to use your code for referral bonuses. Be sure to also use the Friend/Tribe request category for these posts.

Categories

For Discussions Posts, be sure to tag your post with the appropriate category so people are able to find/filter your post. The Wiki Editing category is exclusively for discussing editing the wiki, not for meta posts or posts about Discussions. This category exists since Discussions is much more visible than individual talk pages.

Duplicated Posts and Reporting Vandalism

Remember to check to see if someone as made a post like yours recently, as five posts about the same thing are unnecessary. This is especially important to remember when Vandalism occurs, as multiple people tend to notice it. Duplicated posts and vandalism reports will be deleted. After vandalism has been dealt with, the report will also be deleted. SOAP can also be contacted to deal with vandalism.

Notifications

Don't @ mention random users or add people to a tag list if they have not expressed interest in being notified in your post. If you are receiving notifications from a post you made or previously replied to, you can stop receiving those by selecting the 3 dots in the top right corner, and then selecting "Unfollow Post".

Additionally, necroposting (replying on old posts), on posts from over 1 month ago If the topic of the post is still relevant, consider creating a new post. An exception to this are posts under the Wiki Editing category, as conversations about page edits can be relevant for much longer than a discussion.

Monster Pronouns

Although on main wiki spaces, Monsters are referred to in gender neutral terms, within Discussions, users may refer to a Monster with whatever pronoun they'd like. Questioning or harassing someone based on their choice of pronouns for a Monster is not acceptable. Additionally posts that debate a Monster's gender or how Monster breeding really works are not allowed. To clarify, Monsters reproduce akin to fungi. They produce spores that fuse genetic material together.

Links to Other Sites

Links to other sites are usually not permitted. You may share things from social media, as long as the main purpose of your post isn't to advertise or repost the content. Usually posting these links in the comments of your related post is ideal. If you want to share your own project, your post must have additional content aside from the link. Links to game sites such as Gartic Phone or Whiteboards are also not allowed, since they don't provoke discussion on the site and can often go unmoderated.

Behavior between Editors

Assume Good Faith

Assume that editors are here to improve the wiki rather than destroy it. If you suspect someone of doing something wrong, try to bring in some good advice of how to improve the user's edits, rather than assuming they are there to destroy the wiki. However, if a user repetitively makes disruptive edits, users may assume bad faith.

Status

In regards to editing, users of higher ranking should be treated with equal status with those with no or lower roles. Although Admins may have a greater understanding of what makes a good edit, that does not make them entitled to override any other edit just because they feel like it. If a disagreement occurs, all users (including admins and mods) should discuss it and come to a conclusion.

However when it comes to violations of the Behavior Guidelines, editors are not entitled to a debate.

Edit Wars

If someone makes an edit that you don't agree with, you should not go back and forth undoing the edit. Instead, reach out to the editor on their message wall and come to a conclusion. If you can't reach an agreement, contact an Admin to help mediate or resolve the situation. Keep in mind that this discussion on their message wall should follow all previous rules.

Users who speak English as a second language

There are sometimes users that speak little English, but still want to contribute to the wiki. This is perfectly acceptable as long as their edits still follow Editing Guidelines and are in English. Discussions posts and comments should also be in English as well. Message wall messages can be in other languages, accompanied by a translation.

Disruptive Editing

Any edit that appears to be damaging to the wiki is considered disruptive editing.  Disruptive editing that has the intent of destroying the goal of the wiki is called vandalism. Disruptive editing that appears not to have the intent of destroying the goal of the wiki is simply called "disruptive editing". Any form of disruptive editing that is not vandalism but outside editing the mainstream articles or user pages is called disruptive contributions. More information about vandalism is covered under My Singing Monsters Wiki:Policy #Vandalism.

Editing other's User Pages

Someone's profile and user pages are considered their own personal space.  It isn't appropriate to edit someone else's profile or user pages without their permission.  It is okay to comment on other people's blogs in response to things they have posted there.  It is not okay to post irrelevant things to other people's blogs.

Vandalism

Vandalism is not tolerated at any circumstances. If a user makes edits that appear to be malicious to the goal of making a comprehensive wiki, it is called vandalism. A wide variety of things make an edit vandalism, and anything that is nonsensical, spamming, block-evading, and not-want-to-change-behavior is considered vandalism. Vandalism can be anywhere, from mainstream articles, to blog comments, to blogs, to profile pages, to forums, and basically anywhere where a user can make edits or contributions to.

Repeated vandalism may also be reported to Fandom's SOAP Team, who may decide further action is warranted.

Below are some things that are considered and not considered vandalism. Note that some things are not considered vandalism because of the lack of malicious intent that vandalism would have.

What is considered vandalism?

  • Inserting nonsense to articles, and/or creating new nonsensical articles
  • Blanking useful content without a valid explanation
  • Repeating any form of disruptive editing over and over again.
  • Using sockpuppetry to gain an advantage to evade scrutiny of disciplinary action.
  • Adding obviously incorrect facts to articles

What is not considered vandalism?

Any non-malicious edit is not vandalism, unless a form of disruptive editing becomes completely repetitive.  The following are bad, but not necessarily vandalism.  That is, they're bad things that shouldn't be done, which are not in the "vandalism" category of things that shouldn't be done.

  • Spamming friend codes on pages where friend codes are not appropriate to be placed on, or any other type of spamming or inappropriate advertising. The only exception is when it includes blanking of content to grab attention to the spam or advertisements. (Note that spamming or inappropriate advertising, though not vandalism, is still not acceptable here!)
  • Attempting to add an image or a link but making a problem by having poor source code
  • Disobeying the Manual of Style, unless repeated to an extent that the user wants to deliberately break the Manual of Style.
  • Making useless comments, unless blatantly containing profanities, offensive content, racial slurs, sexual content, other inappropriate content or anything else designed to do damage to the wiki.
  • Adding categories that don't usefully describe the thing that the page is about
  • Personal attacks, unless as comments that are designed to attempt to make a user leave the wiki.  (Note that personal attacks, though not vandalism, are still not acceptable here!)
  • Things like "(insert info)", "TEXT", "QUOTE" if the user is actually planning to add more stuff later, or if the user cannot bother adding more description. However, these should not be used to replace useful content.
  • Fanon (fan-created, unofficial) content. Although Fanon content does not belong in the main wiki space, it is not considered vandalism unless it is done so repeatedly despite warnings and pointers on where Fanon content may be posted.

Blocking Policy

Main article: My Singing Monsters Wiki:Blocking Policy

Only Admins are able to have the ability to block other users. Blocks are to be used to prevent disruption to the wiki, rather than solely as a punishment. A wide variety of reasons for blocks are used, and more is explained at My Singing Monsters Wiki:Blocking Policy.

Note that repeated bad behavior is likely to lead to blocks getting longer. In extreme cases, admins may notify Fandom staff to suggest that the troublemaker should be banned from all of Fandom, not just our own wiki.

If someone gets blocked, other users shouldn't joke about it.  It's a serious matter, and making jokes about it doesn't help; it just creates a nasty atmosphere in the wiki.  Ideally, if someone gets blocked, they will learn their lesson, wait out the block, and then come back and behave better.  If other people are nasty about it, that makes it harder for the blocked person to eventually come back and behave properly.

A "permanent block" means exactly that.  Someone who earns a permanent block never gets to come back... not ever.  If they try to sneak back by using a new account, that new account will immediately be blocked as well, and repeated tries will result in a formal complaint to Fandom staff.  If they nag our admins about it by going to other wikis, that also will result in a formal complaint to Fandom staff.  It takes seriously bad behavior to get a permanent block, but if you manage to do it, then just go away.

Friend Codes

In My Singing Monsters and My Singing Monsters: Dawn of Fire, players have friend codes attached to their game, and many things can be done with friend codes. Friend codes can be used for a wide variety of things, from lighting Wishing Torches, liking Islands, recruiting tribal members, which are all MSM things; helping Skyship orders, Market selling and buying, visiting players' Islands, are all Dawn of Fire things.

These privileges are so useful that they are frequently advertised along social media, including video hosters (such as YouTube), social network sites (such as Facebook and Twitter) and Fandom. Because of this, measures have to be set in this wiki to prevent the overflow of Friend Codes from disturbing the content of the mainstream articles. The solution to this is that all friend codes may be advertised in the Friend Codes, Friend Codes (Dawn of Fire) and Tribe Contacts articles. They are also permitted in the Friend Codes part of the Discussions. Advertising your friend codes in your profile and user pages only is also acceptable.  Repeatedly doing this, to keep your blog entry on the wiki's main page, is not.

And even so, there are strict rules with how Friend Codes are used. The approved pages for friend codes, particularly the articles listed above, all have explicit rules to what to do and what not to do with Friend Codes, particularly with not queue-jumping Friend Codes or not deleting other people's information in order to add your own friend code(s). In a nutshell, always read the rules before posting any friend code.

Even more so, it is strongly against policy to create multiple accounts in order to put your friend codes in an unfair position. Creating new wiki pages to advertise your Friend Code is a kind of spam, and is also not allowed.  The same applies to using other people's message walls to advertise.

Big Blue Bubble Copyright Policy

Main article: My Singing Monsters Wiki:Big Blue Bubble Copyright Policy

Big Blue Bubble has a strict policy when it comes to copyright. Files may not be posted without actual purpose in contributing to an article. All files are to be used educationally, with the purpose of demonstrating the look or sound of a certain feature, Monster, or other thing in the game. Sound files are not to be overused and whole sections of each and every individual Monster sound are not to be posted without prior permission of Big Blue Bubble. In general, images and sounds captured from a game being played are okay, but images and sounds taken directly from the game's files are not.  We also don't permit people to use the wiki to ask for, or offer, such things to be sent through other services.

This is consistent with national and international copyright law.  Some of these laws allow for "fair use", which includes things like brief excerpts or quotations used for purposes of review, comment, or discussion.

Acceptable uses of files include complimenting a certain part of an article to show what a part of the game looks like, such as using currency pack images to show what some of the currency packs look like, using Crafting Item images to demonstrate what each Crafting Item looks like, etc.

Do note that posting spoilers of unreleased upcoming content of My Singing Monsters and Dawn of Fire are absolutely not permitted. Blocks may occur if one posts spoilers of new content.

For fairly obvious reasons, we don't want to have to get involved in legal problems.  It's expensive, complicated, and time-consuming.  We don't wait for BBB to object to something before we follow the rules. For more information about Big Blue Bubble's copyright and fandom policies, please see http://www.bigbluebubble.com/fan-content-policy/.

Anyone who does personal attacks are strongly warned and/or blocked.

Alternate Accounts

Alternate accounts may be used in this wiki.  However, they must be used responsibly and not for disruption, evasion of a block, or any other bad purpose contrary to wiki policies and the wiki's goal.

Sockpuppetry

Any abuse of multiple accounts is called sockpuppetry, and is not allowed. Suspected sockpuppets will be blocked indefinitely. Users who operate sockpuppets are called sockmasters or sockpuppeteers. Sockmasters may get blocked or blocked longer if they use sockpuppets.

Confirmed sockpuppets may be marked with {{Userbar sockpuppet}}. Confirmed sockmasters may be marked with {{Userbar sockmaster}}.

Repeated sockpuppetry may be reported to the Fandom Staffs to do further action if necessary.
