Gameplay[]
Islands[]
- Main article: Islands
There are currently 30 islands the player can visit and have monsters on, each one with a specific set of native monsters:
- Plant Island (pictured)
- Cold Island
- Air Island
- Water Island
- Earth Island
- Gold Island
- Ethereal Island
- Shugabush Island
- Tribal Island
- Wublin Island
- Composer Island
- Celestial Island
- Fire Haven
- Fire Oasis
- Psychic Island
- Faerie Island
- Bone Island
- Light Island
- Magical Sanctum
- The Colossingum
- Seasonal Shanty
- Amber Island
- Mythical Island
- Ethereal Workshop
- Magical Nexus
- Mirror Islands (mirror versions of the Natural and Magical Islands)
Plant, Cold, Air, Water, and Earth Islands are the "Natural Islands", as they only require purchasing Single Element Monsters and breeding to populate the island. The Mirror Islands are mirror versions of the Natural Islands, only with a slightly different appearance and arrangement (since 4.4.0). All Mirror island cost Diamonds, each one getting 100 Diamonds more expensive as you go (Mirror Plant costs 100, Mirror Cold costs 200, Mirror Air costs 300, Mirror Water costs 400, and Mirror Earth costs 500).
When a Natural Island (other than Plant Island or Mirror Plant Island) is bought from the Map or Market, a Ready-to-hatch Tweedle will be in the Nurseries already. Similarly, when Ethereal Workshop is discovered for the first time, a Ready-to-hatch Meebkin will be in the Synthesizer as well instead.
Gold Island is where monsters are placed once they have leveled to 15, while Magical Nexus's level requirement is 18, the latter only occurs via Transporting. No currency is produced on Gold Island, so it is mainly to show off. The Ethereal and Shugabush Islands (except Ethereal Workshop) require teleporting monsters from the Natural Islands to begin breeding (Single Element Ethereals and the Shugabush, respectively). Tribal Island is a place for players to form a Tribe and get as many members as possible to complete the song and free the mysterious Kayna.
Wublin Island contains unique monsters, called Wublins, that need to be "awoken" by zapping eggs of the monsters found on the Natural Islands into their statues. The Fire Islands are two islands (Fire Haven and Fire Oasis) are locations where the natural monsters can breed with the Kayna to create some of the Fire-based hybrids formerly exclusive to the prequel game.
Composer Island is very different than the other islands; it allows the player to create their own unique tunes for each Monster. Other attributes are that it is the largest island in the game, and multiple Monsters of the same species can have different songs. There are many other islands as well (See above).
Across each island is a unique themed song (before 4.4.0, this was in effect when it excluded the Mirror Islands, which were formerly the same as their regular counterparts), made by the combinations of each Monster's tune. Most of the songs are generally between one and two minutes long, and consist of a combination of singing, percussion, and tuned instruments. Each song is played in 3D sound, which allows monsters to be heard distinctly from a certain side.
Monsters[]
- Main article: Monsters
The Monsters are what the game is all about, as there are currently 442 monsters found in the game and they are categorized into different classes: Natural, Fire, Ethereal, Magical, Seasonal, Supernatural, Legendary, Mythical (formerly known as PlayStation Vita Exclusive), Dipster, Celestial, Rare, and Epic.
Natural Monsters[]
- Main article: Natural Monsters
Natural Monsters are the most basic class of Monsters and the most widely seen in the game. They each have a different element configuration based on the elements that they do have. They can also be bred to make more complex Monsters. However, the more elements the Monster has, the harder it is for them to be bred successfully.
There are five different elements that Natural Monsters could have: Plant, Cold, Air, Water and Earth. Four of these elements are available on each Natural Island, which means that certain monsters are not available on certain islands. Three of these elements are only available on both Fire Haven and Fire Oasis, and two are only available in the Magical Islands.
Fire Monsters[]
- Main article: Fire Monsters
Fire Monsters are a class of Monsters with the Fire element, but can also have one or more of the Natural elements that used to be apart of the Natural Monsters in My Singing Monsters: Dawn of Fire, but became their own group. The first of the Fire Monsters to appear in the original is the Kayna who is located on Tribal Island when the Fire element manifested, but it later Fire Haven was released as the first Fire Island.
Magical Monsters[]
- Main article: Magical Monsters
Magical Monsters are a unique class of Monsters first discovered by Kayna and its companions as they were awaiting reinforcements on Fire Frontier. There are four elements that a Magical Monsters can have: Psychic, Bone, Light and Faerie. Magical Monsters can exist on a Magical Island that has one of these elements. Like the Fire Monsters, there are no guarantees of getting these monsters on the first try.
Ethereal Monsters[]
- Main article: Ethereal Monsters
Ethereal Monsters are a much rarer class of Monsters than their Natural and Fire counterparts and can have one or two elements they possess:
Single Element Ethereal Monsters must be bred from a Quad Element Natural Monster and a Triple Element Natural Monster. Double Element Ethereal Monsters are only found on Ethereal Island, where they can be bred from combinations of Single Element Ethereal Monsters teleported from the Natural Islands to Ethereal Island. Triple and Quad Ethereals (including the Quint Ethereal BeMeebEth) must be synthesized by attuning Meebs in the Synthesize on Ethereal Workshop and they only appear in such "island".
Seasonal Monsters[]
- Main article: Seasonal Monsters
Core Seasonal Monsters and Aux. Seasonal Monsters, formerly known as Special Edition Monsters or Limited Edition Monsters, are a class of Monsters that are only available during their respective holiday seasons, out-of-season events, and/or during the Anniversary Event.
Core Seasonals can only be found on the Natural Island the seasonal event happens (except Hoola, which can also be found on Air Island) and Aux. Seasonals can be found across the other islands (most only on the island where their seasonal event occurs, except Gobbleygourd who can also be found on Fire Oasis, Monculus who can also be purchased on Wublin Island when available, and Viveine who can also be found on Shugabush Island) as well as Seasonal Shanty, an island where the Core Seasonals can be teleported on which they can breed to make an Aux. Seasonal or a generic Seasonal, which can also be directly teleported here from other islands.
Legendary Monsters[]
- Main article: Legendary Monsters
Legendary Monsters are a class of Monsters split into two groups: Shugafam and Werdos.
Shugafam[]
- Main article: Shugafam
Shugafam are a type of Legendary Monster that are only found on Shugabush Island, with the sole exception of the Shugabush itself, which is also found on Plant Island and can be placed on Gold Island. The Shugafam is based on country singer Kristian Bush and his band, Sugarland.
Werdos[]
- Main article: Werdos
Werdos are a type of Legendary Monster that are so rare you can only buy with Relics. They sing English lyrics throughout the entire song. They are based on the voice actors of My Singing Monsters and can only be found on the Natural Islands, including the Mirror Islands as well.
Supernatural Monsters[]
- Main article: Supernatural Monsters
There are two kinds of Supernatural Monsters in existence: the Wubbox and the Wublins. What all Supernatural Monsters have in common is that they require a specified number of monsters themselves (for the Wubbox) or monster eggs (for the Wublins) to be powered up.
The Wubbox can be purchased on every Natural Island, Gold Island, Wublin Island, Fire Haven, Fire Oasis, and on Ethereal Island. Wublin statues or the Wubbox can be bought at Wublin Island, which only become active monsters when woken up. Only Wubbox is eligible to be placed on Gold Island. (P.S. Rare Wubbox and Epic Wubbox also count as Wubboxes, but are more limited on islands they are on.)
Mythical Monsters[]
- Main article: Mythical Monsters
Mythical Monsters were originally only obtainable on PS Vita but are since Version 2.3.2 also available on Mobile (iOS and Android). They cannot be placed on Gold Island, and are only found on one Island each, including those in Fire Haven and Fire Oasis. As of Version 3.7.1, with the release of Mythical Island, Mythicals can teleport to there at level 15 and breed with the Cataliszt to make Dreamythicals.
Dipsters[]
- Main article: Dipsters
Dipsters are monsters that have the Dipster element and only play one music note. They pop up from the ground each time they sing a note. Every note is a "dip," singing a certain pitch depending on what their name is. They also have different natural items on their heads.
Celestials[]
- Main article: Celestials
Celestials are an ancient class of Monsters that are exclusive to Celestial Island (unlocked at level 15). Like Wublins, they are bought from the Market and brought to life by zapping Natural Monster eggs to them. They are bought with Diamonds. They debuted in My Singing Monsters: Dawn of Fire where they resided on Starhenge.
Rare Monsters[]
- Main article: Rare Monsters
Rare Monsters are rarer versions of the Monsters found in My Singing Monsters. For more information about Rare Monsters, please see the Rare Monsters category. Oddly enough, the class "Rare" is a subclass of the class "Natural". However, the "Epic" class is not.
Epic Monsters[]
- Main article: Epic Monsters
Epic Monsters are even rarer versions of the Monsters found in My Singing Monsters, which can only be bred with 2 monsters, with the combination changing for each island. For more information about Epic Monsters, please see the Epic Monsters category.
Currency[]
- Main article: Currency
The main currency is Coins, which can be used to:
- Buy most monsters and decorations
- Purchase Islands
- Produce Treats, which in turn can level up monsters.
There are other types of Currency, which can be obtained with specific means. See the main page for details.
Decorations[]
- Main article: Decorations
Decorations are purely cosmetic items which can be used to "spruce up" an island, making it more pleasing for players to watch.
Decorations mostly have no special effect, other than increasing a monster's happiness meter, but some decorations can either emit sound (e.g. Harpsitree) or have unique animations (e.g.Tub Fountain).
Structures[]
- Main article: Structures
Structures, unlike decorations, have a defined purpose in the game, such as storing unwanted monsters or decorations. Some of them are essential for in-game progress and should be bought right away, such as the Breeding Structure.
Most structures can be bought with in-game money (coins), but some of them, called Premium Structures, are purchasable only after an in-app purchase has been made with real cash. There are free alternatives for some of these, so purchasing them is advised if a player is willing to help the developers of the game, and has no restrictions.
System Requirements[]
On all devices, My Singing Monsters uses up at a certain amount of hard drive space. In earlier versions of the game, it required at least 300MB of hard drive space, and up to 500MB hard drive space can be used up by this application. Now, it requires 1.1GB of hard drive space for the app itself, and some more when using the application.
On iOS-based devices, a minimum of iPhone 5S (not iPhone 5 / 5C), iPod Touch (5th generation), iPad 5th Generation , iPad mini 2 or above is required.
As of Version 1.4.1, iOS 6 was required to play, removing support for iPod Touch (3rd generation) and iPad (1st generation).
As of Version 2.0.4, iOS 8 was required to play, removing support for iPod Touch (4th generation), iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4.
As of Version 3.1.0, iOS 11 is required to play, removing support for iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPad Mini 1, and iPad Generations 1 through 4.
On Android-based devices, a minimum of Android 5 (Lollipop) is required.
As of version 2.0.4, Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich) was required, and as of version 2.3.6, Android 5 (Lollipop) is required.
On Amazon Kindle FireOS devices, an equivalent version to the Android OS is required. The App listed in the Amazon app store.
On the now defunct Big Fish Games Windows version, a minimum of Windows XP, DirectX 9.0 (gaming card), 126MB hard drive space, 1GB of RAM and Internet Explorer 7 (or Microsoft Edge) was required.
Binding account[]
In My Singing Monsters, there is a choice of ways to log in. An account can be anonymous, a form of account that can only be played on the current device and if the application is on the device (deleting the app will disconnect the account). An account can be bound to an email account, or a new account can be played on a separate Facebook or GameCenter (iOS only) account, all of which allow the account to be played on any device (although the GameCenter account can only be played on iOS devices).
If you start a new account on a Facebook and/or GameCenter account that is linked to the same email account that already has a bounded account, then starting a new Facebook and/or GameCenter account will not replace the email account nor any other form of login's account. However, the player may wish to migrate their existing account to an already existing Facebook and/or GameCenter account by contacting Big Blue Bubble Support to do so.

Notes[]
- My Singing Monsters started development in January 2012.
- On many older devices, such as the fourth-generation iPod Touch (prior to Version 2.0.3), the game will load for at least 40 seconds; on newer devices, it only will load for at least 10 seconds.
- The game's performance is strongly dependent on a constant connection to its game servers. Even momentary interruptions can make the game stop working. Older WiFi-connected devices, which are less sensitive for WiFi connections, may need to be used relatively close to a WiFi source for the game to run properly. (Other apps are better able to try multiple times to communicate with servers before they give up.)
- A separate Facebook version used to be available but became unsupported on April 30th, 2015 after multiple complaints of game stability and lack of quality consistency with the mobile version. Archive link of unsupport notice.
- A floating currency icon (coins/shards, as well as food/gems for Wublins) will appear above a monster once it has produced at least 75% of its maximum income.
- If a chief accepts another player to join their Tribe almost immediately after request, they both will have to reload their games to see the new member's monster. However, the chief can place the new member's monster earlier than the new member can start feeding it.
- If the player reloads the game whilst they have pending currency rewards, they will be alerted that they have earned them with the "coin/diamond collect" sound effect (depending on which the player has earned) on the loading screen.
- Currently, there isn't any form of private messaging system or chatroom. This is likely because having one would raise the game's rating to T instead of E, or 12+ instead of 4+.
- The "follow us on Twitter" message that sometimes pops up featured a Tweedle and a Scups.
- The Tweedle seems to represent the "bird" of the Twitter logo while the Scups represents the blue tone of the Twitter logo.
- This was made void when Twitter became X.
- The "follow us on Facebook" message that sometimes pops up features a Bowgart and a Mammott.
- The Bowgart seems to represent the blue of the Facebook logo while the Mammott represents the white font inside the Facebook logo.
- During the time between Version 1.4.1 and Version 2.0.3, the game itself is not recommended on iPhone 3GS, due to the low resolution of what it outputs, or the fourth-generation iPod Touch, as it often crashes the game.
- Any previous update will last several days before being unsupported and requiring the newest update.
- The monsters, islands, and effects are animated in Adobe After Effects. The art is digitally hand drawn, while the animation is 2D puppetry.
- Typefaces used in My Singing Monsters include (variants on):
- OpenDyslexic - Used for Currency counters, Monster/Island names, Options menu labels, and many more. It is almost always outlined in black, with an approximately 15% outline width (exact values differ between software).
- Hobeaux - Used for button labels, tab labels, Player level, and a few other places.
- Typo Grotesk Rounded Regular - Used in the Big Blue Bubble logo.
- Free-handed designs, such as in the wordmark and themed writing in promotional images.
- On May 2020, My Singing Monsters won the Webby Awards 2020. Everyone who logged in on 22nd May 2020 received 10 diamonds.
- On 25th/26th February 2021, My Singing Monsters was revealed to become available on Steam soon for Windows players. Minimum operating system requirement is revealed to be Windows 8. Link. The Steam version launched on March 24th, 2021, and includes higher quality graphics than the mobile version. It launched at version 3.0.1, with more updates coming in the future. Mobile Accounts cannot be accessed on the Steam version, effectively requiring existing players to build up a new Account.
- On 16th/17th March 2021, Big Blue Bubble announced that the My Singing Monsters system requirements have raised to a minimum of iOS 11 or Android 5.0 in the upcoming month.
- On the Steam version, the game is also called "My Singing Monsters". For purposes of distinguishing platform versions, the Steam version of My Singing Monsters is referred to as "the Steam version of My Singing Monsters".
