The Monster World is the setting of the My Singing Monsters franchise. It is where all of the Monsters live, and where most of the games take place. The Monster World is one of the nine known universes in the shared Big Blue Bubble Multiverse held together by the binding sap of the World Tree. Much of the Monster World still is unexplored or unknown with the Monster-Handlers and Monster biologists such as Dr. Wardin E. Spurrit.
Map[]
- Main article: Map
Planet[]
In the current era, the planet of the Monster World is in the shape of a torus, or "donut", rather than a standard spheroid. In antiquity, it used to be more sphere-like or at least round, as evidenced by the curvature, but the Cataclysm that broke apart the Continent at the end of the Dawn of Fire "shook the very foundations of the Monster World down to its core", causing a huge void to open up at the center of the world.
Just like the Human World's Earth, the planet has its own sun and moon. The sun allows some Monsters such as Clamble to obtain sustenance through photosynthesis, and can be seen most prominently in the sky of the SummerSong Island Skin. The moon orbits through the center of the torus and is where the Dreamspace dimension is located, as indicated by the in-game Map.
Inhabitants[]
The most prevalent inhabitants of the Monster World are its namesake Monsters, but some other creatures also make their home there. Most notably are the Colossals and Titans, which are often fashioned into the Islands in which the Monsters reside. Critters also make themselves at home in and around these Islands. Outside of Plants and Fungi (which tend to be classified as plants in this world), there are a few other creatures that do not have a known classification. These include the Jarhead; the Odd-o-Mobile; Kab, the mysterious creator of Kab's Wax; the Floofies of the Floofy Nest; possibly along with the Fortuitously Unidentified Monster, although it claims to be a Monster.
The main section of the Monster World is divided into several locations, while the Monster World as whole is divided into separate dimensions. Many Monsters from other dimensions can inhabit the main section of the Monster World, but many are also found exclusively within these dimensions. Examples of dimensions include the Pocket Dimension, the Higher Plane, and the Dreamspace.
Monsters and creatures from other universes can also inhabit the Monster World. It should be noted that universes and dimensions are not the same thing, with the difference being that universes are completely separate realms from the Monster World, while dimensions count as being part of it. The realm of Thingia, the Thumpieverse, and the Human World are examples of universes where some Monsters and creatures may come from.
There have also been other creatures that are presumed to be extinct, although a few have since been rediscovered, such as Spurrit and certain species of Thumpies.
Locations[]
The Seam[]
“ | The Seam runs along the outer equator of the Monster World. Numerous islands that share an especially strong connection with the human world can be found along this invisible path. | ” |
— In-game description |
The Seam is the metaphysical barrier that separates the Monster World from the Human World, located on the outer circumference of the torus planet. Along the Seam are the four Islands with the strongest Human World influence: Shugabush Island, Composer Island, Tribal Island, and The Colossingum, which all involve connections with humans more so than the other Islands.
Shugabush Island is inhabited by the Shugafam, a family of Monsters based on the real-life musician Kristian Bush, and the Island's song is a remix of Kristian Bush's song "Love or Money". In the sky of the Island, the Human World's moon can be seen alongside the Monster World's moon.
On Composer Island, Monsters can perform songs composed directly by players. The Island's Composer Castle acts as a transmitter of information between the Human and Monster Worlds through the Seam, as mentioned in its description. Unlike other Islands, Composer Island's Colossal appears to be half-awake, possibly due to the connection to the Human World.
Tribal Island and the Colossingum are based on direct interactions between humans: the former involves players collaborating with one another to form Tribes, while the latter focuses on competitions between players using teams of Monsters.
The Living Ocean[]
“ | The majority of the Monster World is covered by a single massive body of water known as the living ocean. Most Islands are situated above the surface, but Water Island is uniquely positioned beneath the tides. | ” |
— In-game description |
The Living Ocean is the largest body of water in My Singing Monsters and has always been depicted to have calm waters. It surrounds most of the Islands in the Monster World, such as the Natural Islands, the two Fire Islands, Seasonal Shanty, Tribal Island, and The Colossingum, which rose out of the ocean due to an earthquake. Water Island is completely submerged under the Living Ocean, as well as Glubber Lagoon.
In Dawn of Fire, it can be seen around the Continent, with the Water and Earth lands completely submerged under it at the beginning of the game. As you level up, the sea level decreases, giving you access to those areas. The Living Ocean can also be seen surrounding Party Island, with the Glubpole drifting on its surface. After the end of the Dawn of Fire, some parts of Party Island sank to the bottom of the ocean after the rest of it blipped out of existence. The remains of other Glubbers have apparently been found there as well, as teased in the Epic Blabbit teasers. The Glubpole that carried Party Island metamorphosized into a Glubber, a Titan. This is depicted in-game as Glubber Lagoon.
The Spurrit of Adventure was a vessel helmed by Mammott, Toe Jammer, and Noggin to sail across the living ocean to get to the Colossingum. The Spurrit of Adventure II was helmed by Spurrit to reach Fire Oasis in the Perplexplore 2023 trailer. Hoola can also be seen in a sailboat in a "Farewell Hoola" advert and the Seasonal Shanty trailer, as well as the Surely You Jest trailer, implying that Monsters commonly sail across the Living Ocean to get to different Islands.
The Living Ocean's water is also much different than water in the Human World, being described as "Monstroactive" in the bio of Rare Spurrit. Spurrit was stated to have lost all of its teeth drinking the water of the living ocean, implying that it can possibly be harmful to drink from it. Along with the critters and monsters, there are also microscopic organisms that can be found in the water, only visible under a microscope. The water of the living ocean is also breathable by monsters, and does not cause any electronic devices to corrode or suffer any damage at all, allowing mechanical monsters like Wubbox to exist in it.
Jammerland[]
“ | Jammerland is a tropical atoll near Fire Oasis where a castaway population of Toe Jammers established their own society long ago. Its terrain is diverse and its recreational activities very splashy. | ” |
— In-game description |
On the new map, a location resembling Toe Jammer can be seen near Fire Oasis. It is labelled as a tropical atoll, which was alluded to in the bio for Fire Oasis. This represents the Jammerlands, the location where the game Jammer Splash is set.
Monstriana Trench[]
“ | The deepest section of the living ocean is called the Monstriana Trench, where unusual deep-sea creatures dwell. Wublin Island is accessible via a crack in the sea floor at the bottom of the trench. | ” |
— In-game description |
The Monstriana Trench, named after the Human World's Mariana Trench, was created by Ultimate Creator Chris Wimberly as the previous residence of his Mythical, Anglow. It was first seen in the Mythical's trailer "A Trench in the Works," discovered by Blabbit after it floated down off the edge of Water Island. Residing in it are hundreds of strange creatures, the few known ones also being created by Chris: the Jlelljiggle, the Glimmerglaw, the Anemonon, and the aforementioned Anglow, with the last one the only one that is known to produce music. The Monstriana Trench is inhospitably toasty due to its proximity to the Living Core.
Other ocean dwelling Monsters, such as Phangler and Thrumble, live in the upper regions of the Trench. This led to the evolution of Epic Thrumble. The Monstriana Trench also serves as a connection to Wublin Island, having a long passageway that leads to the left vent of the Island.
The Sea of G'reen[]
The Sea of G'reen is a section of the Living Ocean where uninspired G'joobs go and become Epic G'joobs. Not much is known about this location as of now.
It was first mentioned in Epic G'joob's bio.
Shanty Sea[]
“ | The waters of the living ocean that surround the Seasonal Shanty are appropriately referred to as the Shanty Sea. It's next to impossible to navigate unless you happen to be a Seasonal who knows the way. | ” |
— In-game description |
The Shanty Sea is a region of the Living Ocean where Seasonal Shanty is located. This region seemingly obscures the Shanty, in such a way that only Seasonal Monsters known how to locate it. It was first named in its Point of Interest on the in-game Map when it was updated in version 4.5.0.
The Storm[]
“ | Intense tempests of lightning and thunder encircle Wublin Island; the area is positively coursing with the Supernatural Element of Electricity. | ” |
— In-game description |
The Storm is an area of the Monster World far from the Natural Islands that surrounds Wublin Island. It is perpetually stormy and is known to block out the sun and make it impossible to tell time (for all but Creepuscule, who inherently knows what time it is). The element of Electricity is manifested in Wublin Island and The Storm because of the electrical clouds in the area, and the Wublins, Wubbox, and Monculus are the only inhabitants. As previously mentioned, it can be accessed from the Monstriana Trench via a passage that leads to Wublin Island.
The Living Core[]
“ | The living core, the Monster World's most prominent volcano, only recently emerged above the surface of the living ocean, having spent countless years submerged and presumed lost after the end of the Dawn of Fire. | ” |
— In-game description |
The Living Core is the oldest part of the Monster World. It is a volcano that currently houses Fire Haven, and by extension half of Amber Island's Colossal. It was once part of the Continent before the five elemental lands were separated from it during the Cataclysm, so the Fire Monsters were forced to seek shelter inside of the Living Core. Presumably, The Living Core is deep underground and very hot. Fire Oasis exists in close proximity to the Living Core, outside of it, being heated by geysers that are likely associated with the Living Core's volcanic activity. Furnoss is said to have been forged in the Living Core.
The Caves[]
“ | A series of labyrinthine tunnels and passageways criss-cross the subterranean reaches of the Monster World. They are especially concentrated in the region around Fire Haven. | ” |
— In-game description |
A system of caves connect Fire Haven, Fire Oasis, Bone Island, and Tribal Island. Kayna has been shown to access the caves on Tribal Island to see paintings of the Fire Monsters. Epic Tring is able to guide Monsters who get lost in the caves. Stogg and other Fire Monsters stumbled across the caves in Fire Haven, subsequently discovering Bone Island. Clavavera uses the tunnels to get to Bone Island to celebrate its event.
Prior to the Fire Expansion, all Amber Island exclusive monsters lived in the caves underneath Fire Haven and Fire Oasis. Even before Fire Oasis was made and the Magical Islands were discovered, all Fire Monsters that didn't appear in-game were said to live in these caves.
Dense Clouds[]
“ | Dense clouds form in this area of the Monster World, a vestige of even stronger weather patters from Monster antiquity. They both protect and isolate Faerie Island. | ” |
— In-game description |
An area of dense clouds surrounds Air Island and Faerie Island. These clouds are reminiscent of the clouds from Cloud Island. Every year around Cloverspell, these clouds dissipate and let the blue sky shine through. Celestial Island has a clear view of the stars, despite its proximity to the dense clouds.
Aurora Monstralis[]
“ | The Aurora Monstralis is a magical phenomenon that lights up the night sky. The Titan Phosphora follows the Aurora around, causing Light Island to never be in a fixed position. | ” |
— In-game description |
The Aurora Monstralis, named after the Human World's aurora australis, is a magical light display phenomenon that occurs in the sky above regions of the Living Ocean. The Titan Phosphora follows the Aurora Monstralis around the world, never staying in one place. For a brief time after the summer solstice, the particles of the Aurora Monstralis are charged up, transforming it into a colorful display with energies from the Prism Dimension, coloring the sky and transfiguring the landscape of Light Island. This period is celebrated by Monsters with the SkyPainting event.
The Phosphoran Phlox can manipulate the Aurora Monstralis around Light Island when performing its sounds.
Dimensions[]
Within the Monster World exists various dimensions:
Main Dimension[]
The Main Dimension is where the majority of the Islands and locations in the game can be found, including the player's starting Island. Most Monsters living on the Main Dimension are native to it, but it also houses Monsters coming from other dimensions, such as the Ethereals, which come from the Pocket Dimension, and also Monsters who come from other universes, such as the Legendaries, which originate from the Human World.
Pocket Dimension[]
“ | The pocket dimension actually predates the Monster World, and served as an experimental staging ground for the Colossals during the earliest days of their acts of creation. Currently, Ethereal Island, the Workshop inside it, and Magical Sanctum are contained therein. | ” |
— In-game description |
The Pocket Dimension is an alternate dimension in the Monster World that contains Ethereal Island, Ethereal Workshop, and Magical Sanctum. This dimension is only accessible from the main Monster World through Teleportation. Only Monsters of the Magical, Ethereal, Superethereal, Dipsters and Aux. Seasonal classes are known to inhabit the Pocket Dimension. These Monsters also produce Shards. This dimension is also home to Krystillium, which is a crystal that the Colossals used in tandem with Bubblerite to create Monculus.
In Magical Sanctum's reveal trailer, a Common, Rare, and Epic Ghazt managed to teleport the four Magical Single Element Monsters to Magical Sanctum.
According to the new map, there is an unknowable distance between Magical Sanctum & Ethereal Island in the Pocket Dimension.
Ethereal Meadow[]
First shown in the Magical Sanctum reveal trailer, Ethereal Meadow is a location in the Pocket Dimension that is only a short distance away from Ethereal Island. It contains Bubblerite statues of Ghazt that apparently predate the Continent. The fabric of reality around the Ethereal Meadow has frayed and allowed pieces of different dimensions to cross over, notably the Cliff of Morsels from the Thumpieverse. Ethereal Island's Rare Wubbox gravitates towards Ethereal Meadow.
Higher Plane[]
“ | The higher plane is another dimension of reality that allows Monsters to exist in two places at once, and has historically also been used as a 'seed-vault' for the precious Element of Fire. Both Gold Island and Amber Island reside in this superliminal state of being. | ” |
— In-game description |
The Higher Plane is a metaphysical plane of existence within the Monster World that contains Gold Island and Amber Island. Natural Monsters, Core Seasonals, Jam Boree, Shugabush, and Wubbox, as well as their Rare and Epic variants, can travel to the Higher Plane through Gold Island. Fire Monsters and Viveine exist as vessels that need to be revitalized on Amber Island. Monsters can exist simultaneously on Gold Island and the Island they were teleported from. In the trailer for Amber Island, it was shown that Monsters can use their mind to "tap" in or out of the Higher Plane. It has not been shown if it is possible to teleport or travel to Amber Island, but it is known to be visible from Gold Island with binoculars.
At the center of the Higher Plane is the Crystal Castle, which is apparently the reason why monsters are immortal and have infinite motivation to sing. Due to it being pretty selective on which monsters can appear there and where, only certain monster species have access to the Higher Plane.
The current Map shows the Higher Plane in the void in the middle of the torus, although it is unknown if it is actually located there in reality.
Dreamspace[]
“ | The dreamspace is a metaphysical reality devised by Dream Crafter so that Mythical Island may exist there. It's neither real nor unreal, but if we had to place it somewhere, it'd be on the Monster World moon. | ” |
— In-game description |
The Dreamspace is a dimension created by Cataliszt and an intergalactic traveler known as the Dream Crafter. It contains Mythical Island, which Mythical Monsters can teleport to through the arcane art of dreamcraft. In the trailer for Mythical Island, it was shown that this is done while the Monster is sleeping, with the exception of Hyehehe and Anglow, with Hyehehe being physically dropped into the dreamspace by a dimension-hopping Epic Humbug, and a Mythical symbol appearing in the ocean, teleporting Anglow into the dreamspace. Just like how the Colossals were able to pluck their creations from their mind and manifest them in reality, Mythical Monsters are able to imagine and bring to life the Dreamythicals in collaboration with the Cataliszt. Although unlike the Colossals, it has been suggested that these dreams are able to come to life without the use of materials or even the Life-Formula or spark of life. This is likely due to the mystical nature of the Dreamspace. Additionally, Mythical Island is made of Hummatite, a material that is "impossible" to exist in the main dimension.
The current Map depicts the Dreamspace on the Monster World's moon, as Mythical Island has a great connection with the moon. However, its Point of Interest on the Map seems to indicate that this is not where the dimension is actually located, stating that it is "neither real nor unreal".
In the Feast-Ember 2024 Part 2: Electric Gobbaloo trailer, Gobbleygourd was seen "flying" past Mythical Island after being launched towards the moon. This would mean that 1) The Dreamspace is accessible from the main dimension even if its not in it, 2) non-Mythicals can make their way there, and 3) even if it's not on the moon, it is between the Monster World and its moon.
Beyond[]
“ | There's a whole universe out there past the edges of the Monster World, from Anglow's home planet to the point of origin of Stair Shaper. Magical Nexus resides in the Beyond. | ” |
— In-game description |
The Beyond is the entire universe that lies outside of the Monster World. It contains Magical Nexus, an Island that all impure Magical Monsters can be transported to through Transposition and meet the Stair Shaper, the cosmic traveler that created them and the Magical Islands. The only other locations known to be situated in the Beyond are the place of origin of the Stair Shaper, and the home planet of the Anglow.
Anglow's Home Planet[]
During the Dawn of Fire, there was a distant planet covered in water that was the home of the Anglows and their domesticated Pinghounds. On an unknown date, a specific Anglow was tasked by its leader to find a new planet in an attempt to make peace with the Monsters that lived there. The Anglow was then off to explore when the spaceship suddenly started to malfunction and was sent hurdling though space until it crashed into the prehistoric Living Ocean, in the area now known as the Monstriana Trench.
Because multiple Anglows can be found in the Monster World, it can be assumed that the spaceship contained a crew of Anglows, rather than a single one.
Mirror Timeline[]
The Mirror Timeline (formerly known as the "Mirror Dimension") is a secondary timeline in which the Mirror Islands are located. It exists in an alternate continuity of the main Monster World, in which the Cataclysm from the main timeline did not occur.
Instead, the Mirror Natural Islands were formed when an incursion of Ethereal energy from the Pocket Dimension broke apart the prehistoric Continent. As such, each Mirror Natural Island is covered in the sticky pink residue of the Rift (the space between dimensions), evidence of the resident Ethereal Element's elevated presence, and artifacts from the ancient Monster World.
The Mirror Magical Islands were formed when the condensed Outer Islands of the ancient Monster World, which were previously assumed to have disappeared forever at the end of the Dawn of Fire, fused with the Magical Titans of the Mirror timeline. On the fused half of each Island, physical features and decorative debris from the corresponding Outer Island can be seen.
It is currently unknown what happened to the Outer Islands and Starhenge that were native to the Mirror Timeline.
Dawn of Fire[]
- Main article: Timeline of the Monster World#The Dawn of Fire
The Dawn of Fire was an early period in the Monster World where all Monsters lived in great harmony, at a point before the Natural Islands (and the volcano) split apart, and the Outer Islands still existed.
During this point in time, the Continent was a Pangaea-like culmination of the Natural Islands that housed the Natural Monsters, the Fire Monsters, the Mythical Monsters, and all five Core Seasonal Monsters, all of which aspired to become old enough to live on the Outer Islands. Along with this, the Prism Gate was known to occasionally appear, and Monsters who passed though it and entered the Prism Dimension returned as Prismatic Monsters. During this time, the Celestials also inhabited their unique home, Starhenge.
An unknown event or series of events known as the Cataclysm, detailed partially by Monstroglyphics, led to the end of the Dawn of Fire. The Continent broke apart, leading to the Colossals sacrificing their lives to imbue themselves into the Islands and act as their guardians. The Prism Gate became overambitious and swallowed all the Outer Islands, causing all of the Prismatic Monsters on them to be lost (except for one), and Starhenge fell out of the sky and crashed into an unknown Colossal, forming Celestial Island. Remnants of the Outer Islands were later sent into the Mirror Timeline by the Stair Shaper, where they crashed into the Magical Titans and were imbued into their bodies, forming the Mirror Magical Islands.
Notes[]
- The song that plays in the Login Screen is called "The Monster World". A rendition of the song also plays when viewing the Map.
- Many Islands are interconnected to each other:
- The two Fire Islands are connected to Tribal Island and Bone Island through a series of underground tunnels.
- Bone Island is also connected to Seasonal Shanty through a trapdoor and a rocky slide from the latter, as demonstrated by Clavavera in the first Beat Hereafter trailer.
- The Monstriana Trench contains a portal that leads into one of the grates of Wublin Island, as seen in Eggstravaganza 2023's trailer.
- Ethereal Workshop is inside of Ethereal Island, and, though unknown to the Ethereal Monsters residing above it, is accessible through going into one of the Island's green tubes.
