- This article is about hatched Monster names. For names of Monsters, see Monsters.
Every time a newly-hatched Monster is placed on an island, the game gives it a name by randomly selecting it from a list unique to each Monster type. The player is then allowed to change the Monster's name at any time after that. Teleporting any Monster to another Island or evolving a Monster into a Rare or an Epic doesn't change the Monster's name.
The discontinued Big Fish Games version of the game had an oddly strange and peculiar limitation, though: although some of the Monsters' default names do include spaces and punctuation characters as well, the game prohibited players from typing anything but alphabet characters into the new Monster names. The other versions don't have this restriction.
Below are lists of every known default name for every Monster from My Singing Monsters and Dawn of Fire, all ordered in alphabetical order. Note that this list is not official and that there is no official list of every single name, meaning some Monsters may be missing names or may have fake names in the list.

Rare Wubbox is the only Rare Supernatural Monster with its own set of default names. The Rare Wublins evolve instead of hatching from an egg, and therefore inherit their name from their Common variants, and re-rolling names for Rare Wublins currently shows that they use the names from their Common variants.

Community Contests[]
- According to the Schmoochle naming event, 15 different names were selected to become some of the possible default names of Schmoochle.
- On the Facebook page about the Repatillo's introduction, there was a contest of the 10 most-liked monster names for the Repatillo. The contest ended on Thursday, November 26th, 2015, noon at Eastern Time. The results for all of the ten new names given are Staccato, Picadillo, Zilla, Purplejam, Pikoliz, Shelldon, Rupert, Scalar, Armin, and Rock-N-Raptor. The link to it is here.
- The eleven nicknames given to the Yelmut from the community contest are Yamooka, Natiku, Kanaloa, Tsukasha, Lono, Nahoa, Biiki, Xibalba, Slimeba, Dalagmite, Escargoon. - The ten given names given to the Wynq from the community contest are Clopsie, Shrimpi, Eayan, Skeye, Plankie, Thynq, Jumby, Ojo, Lunk, and Toothiefruttie. The results are here.

- No competition of naming was given for Barrb, which came in Version 1.6.0 of Dawn of Fire alongside the Pango. This since had stopped this naming type of competition, as all future fire monsters released between Barrb and Drummidary were given pre-chosen nicknames by the Monster-Handlers instead. Although later, Incisaur broke this trend.
- There was a nickname contest held for Incisaur: https://www.bigbluebubble.com/incisaur-nickname-contest/. It ran from when they announced Incisaur on March 22nd, 2019, until 12:00 PM (noon) Eastern Standard Time on Friday, March 29th. Rare Variants
- Wubbox & Rare Wubbox.
- This is possibly because in the Let Them Meet Cake trailer, it is shown that Rare Wubbox is formed from the common one.
- Hoola & Rare Hoola, Fung Pray & Rare Fung Pray, Dragong & Rare Dragong.
Notes[]
- mOnStErP05_nIcKnAmE1 for Hyehehe is the longest given monster name at 19 letters/numbers, not counting the underscore (_). The shortest name is J for Auglur, having only 1 letter. The second shortest names all have 2 letters: Jr. for Pummel, Ig for Rare Boodoo, and Lo for Epic Deedge, not counting the full stop (.) in Pummel's name.
- The name EeDeeEmmEssEmm for Epic Hoola is the pronunciation of the letters EDMSM, which is a portmanteau of EDM, a music genre short for "electronic dance music", and MSM, short for My Singing Monsters.
- Riff and Rare Riff originally shared their default names. Rare Riff has now been given its own set of names, but players may have Rare Riffs with the common counterpart's names from before the switch.
- There was a bug on DoF with T-Rox, where every hatched T-Rox was nicknamed "T-Rox" (its default name) or "New Monster".
- This could be the reason why one of Hyehehe’s names is “T-Rox”.
- 2/9/2019: During the "My Singing Monsters Live Stream" on Twitch, Monster-Handlers Matt and Eric decided to include the community names used in the "Nickname this monster" Section. Those names were "Cerebros" by kitsunelasting for Plixie, "Wynter" by CosmicPrynce for Maggpi, and "Battrix" by mistiroC3 for Epic Tweedle.
- During the 14th episode of MSM live, the nicknames for Epic Schmoochle were announced.
- "Mosh N Pitt" is the only nickname the Thumpies can get that doesn't contain an ampersand (&).
- Upon the release of Psychic Island, there was a bug where Rooba didn’t have any names and instead used Tapricorn’s. This was later fixed, and Rooba received its own name set.
- Bisonorus' name "Dubble & Trubble" might be a reference to Pokemon, in which Team Rocket will introduce themselves saying, "Prepare for trouble" "and make it double".
- Gob's name "Aperchurr" is reference to the word 'aperture', which is an opening in which light passes through.
- All of Epic Ghazt's names reference characters from the Ghostbusters media franchise.
- All of Epic Quibble's names are corruption of Quibble.
- Both Floot Fly and the Wimmzies have a name referencing Quarrister.
- Floot Fly has the name "Fauxrrister" because it was supposed to be the Quad of Earth Island before becoming the Single Element Monster for Faerie.
- The Wimmzies have the name "QuarristHer" since they resemble Quarrister's many heads and are rather feminine. It's also a reference to the Wimmzies' concept art, where they strongly resemble Quarrister.
- Cantorell's name Rotbelly is a reference to Potbelly. This is most likely because they are both vocalists, have 2 heads, and take a 1x1 space.
- Maulch has the least possible names out of every other monster, having only 5.
- T-Rox in DoF had the least possible names when it first came out due to a bug where the only possible nicknames for it were "T-Rox" or "New Monster".
- In contrast to Maulch, Cataliszt has the most names, with a total of 42.
- Due to counting as monsters on Composer Island, Glowbes placed there have nicknames, however they only have 1 possible nickname, being "Glowbe".
- Cybop currently has the most amount of names that are only possible in the original game and not in DoF, with a total of 17.
- For ones only possible in DoF, Reedling and Thumpies has the most amount (with a total of 10), but Cybop is a close second (with a total of 8).
- Auglur’s name Terralb and Blarret’s name Rulgua are each other’s default names, but reversed.
- The Rare Wublins and Adult Celestials do not have their own nicknames, due to them being evolved or ascended, respectively.
- Oddly, Reedling, Spunge, Scups, and Riff share no nicknames between My Singing Monsters and Dawn of Fire.
- The Thumpies share names between MSM and DoF, however all "&"symbols (and "N" for Mosh N Pitt) are replaced by the word "and".
- Cybop only shares 1 nickname between MSM and DoF, that being Choppa. The other 9 are completely original, with 3 being based on or similar to nicknames from MSM (Borg, Helibop, Throttul)
- All of these monsters (except Thumpies) were released in DoF around the same time.
- Hyehehe is the second Monster to have a nickname that is also the name of another Monster, this being T-Rox. The first one was Gheegur with the nickname "Cahoot".
- Note that Gheegur was released before Cahoot, but Hyehehe was released after T-Rox.
- When Epic Noggin, Epic Furcorn, Epic Tweedle, and Epic Entbrat first released, they mistakenly used the names of their common counterpart.
