|“||The Humbug is the incarnation of the misunderstood Ethereal element of Poison. When it buzzes its wings fast enough, it can open up and glide on supersonic dimensional highways from universe to universe. Humbugs naturally enjoy warm weather, and are drawn to humid places where the hum produced by their wings has the finest tone.||”|

Humbug is a single-element Ethereal Monster with the Poison element. It is found on Earth Island and can be teleported to Ethereal Island once fed to level 15. Humbug was added on February 19th, 2014 during Version 1.2.5. It is best obtained by breeding Quarrister and a triple-element Monster. By default, its breeding time is 1 day and 12 hours long. Humbug has a great coin production on Earth Island and has rates comparable to Quarrister to Epic Quarrister depending on your coin collection schedule. Although it is recommended to get other Monsters with even higher coin production.
Once teleported to Ethereal Island, Humbug takes 10 hours to incubate. You can then breed it with any other Monster to get more. Like all single-element Ethereals, Humbug has excellent shard production, bested only by other single-element Rare and Epic Monsters.
Instrument: An electric guitar with a lot of distortion
The Humbug's song is a legato distorted electric guitar sound, providing smooth chords to an island's song.
The Humbug can be bred using a combination of one four-element monster and one three-element monster. Possible combination(s):
- + Quarrister and Clamble
- + Quarrister and Thumpies
- + Quarrister and PomPom
- + Quarrister and Reedling
There is roughly a 1% chance of breeding this successfully. According to statistics, doing 70 attempts gives you a 50% chance of successfully breeding at least one Humbug; and doing 690 attempts gives you a 99.9% chance of successfully breeding at least one Humbug. Note that a Rare Monster can substitute any parent. The only exceptions are "Ethereal Breeding Bonanzas. These increase the chance of breeding an Ethereal by 500%. That means during the event, you'll know there is a 5x higher chance.
Every monster has different things that they like. For every unique object that they like that's placed near the monster, the monster's happiness will increase by 25%. Placing more than one of the same liked item near a monster will still only increase its happiness by 25%. If there's a Unity Tree on the island, items don't need to be near the monsters. Below are the things liked by Humbug:
- Thumpies (requires level 9) ()
- Kazilleon (level 9) ()
- Floofy Nest (level 24)
- Flappy Flag (level 9)
- Piney Tree (level 13) ()

Used in Breeding
|Humbug is used in the following breeding combinations:|
Earning Rate and Maximum Income
Earning rate is in Coins per minute or Shards per hour and depends on Happiness % (Likes increase Happiness) and Monster Level. Each Monster also has a maximum amount of income it can hold at a time. Increasing the Monster's Level also increases this limit.
Each monster needs to be fed four times before it reaches the next level. Increasing the monster's level increases the shards earned per hour, as well as the maximum shards earned.
|The food per level table:|
More info can be found in the Feeding article. Note: with the Ethereal Island update, Humbug can be fed up to level 15, at which time it can be placed on Ethereal Island, instead of Gold Island.
Possible Monster Names

- Some of Humbug's names are references to "A Christmas Carol," Being "Bezziwig" to Fezziwig, "Krachit" to Bob Cratchit, and "Skrooj" to Ebenezer Scrooge. This is due to the Scrooge's famous line, "Bah, Humbug".
Since Humbug can't be teleported to The Colossingum, its costumes are purely cosmetic. It is possible to breed a Humbug wearing a costume through either breeding failure () or by using the normal combination to breed Humbug (). However, since Humbug is already an Ethereal, the chances of breeding one wearing a costume on Earth Island might be extremely low. It should be easier on Ethereal Island, however.
- Humbug's name is a portmanteau of Hum and Bug, referring to its hum-like buzzing sound and that it is a bug. It is also a play on the English word of the same name.
- It is true that some insects are attracted to warm places, as Humbug is to Earth Island.
- Humbug is the first Ethereal Monster to have a purchasable Costume.
