“ | The Humbug is the incarnation of the misunderstood Ethereal element of Poison. When it buzzes its wings fast enough, it can open up and glide on supersonic dimensional highways from universe to universe. Humbugs naturally enjoy warm weather, and are drawn to humid places where the hum produced by their wings has the finest tone. | ” |

Description[]
Humbug is a Single-Element Ethereal Monster with the Poison Element. It is found on Earth Island and can be teleported to either Ethereal Island or The Colossingum once fed to level 15. In a future update, Humbug will also be discovered on Poison Islet. Humbug was added alongside Kazilleon on February 19th, 2014, during version 1.2.5. It is best obtained by breeding Quarrister and a Triple-Element Monster. By default, its breeding time is 1 day and 12 hours long. Humbug has a great Coin production on Earth Island and has rates comparable to Quarrister to Epic Quarrister depending on your coin collection schedule. Although it is recommended to get other Monsters with even higher Coin production. The Goal for placing your first Humbug rewards the player with 5 Diamonds ().
Once teleported to Ethereal Island, Humbug takes 10 hours to incubate. You can then breed it with any other Monster to get more. Like all Single-Element Ethereals, Humbug has excellent Shard production, bested only by other Single-Element Rare and Epic Monsters.
Song[]
Audio sample:
Instrument: An electric guitar with added flanger
Performer: Dave Kerr
Humbug's song is a legato electric guitar sound with a flanger effect added, providing smooth chords to an island's song.
Breeding[]
Humbug can be bred using a Quarrister and one Triple-Element Monster. Possible combination(s):
+
Quarrister
and Reedling
+
Quarrister
and Thumpies
+
Quarrister
and PomPom
+
Quarrister
and Clamble
There is roughly a 1% chance of breeding this successfully, but out of all of the combinations shown above, Quarrister + Reedling is the best combination out of them all, as Reedling eggs can be zapped to a Gheegur, which is the cheapest Wublin that requires eggs from Earth Island Triples. PomPom eggs can also be zapped to a Gheegur, but Gheegur requires more Reedling eggs than PomPom eggs. According to statistics, doing 70 attempts gives you a 50% chance of successfully breeding at least one Humbug; and doing 690 attempts gives you a 99.9% chance of successfully breeding at least one Humbug. Note that a Rare Monster can substitute any parent. The only exceptions are Ethereal Breeding Bonanzas. There is no 'optimal' breeding method, as all Natural Monsters used to breed humbug result in a 12 hour wait if failure.
- Ethereal Island:
+
Humbug
and Rare Humbug
(Best choice, 100% chance of a Humbug if Rare Humbug is unavailable)
Likes[]
Every Monster has different things that they like. For every unique object that they like that's placed near the Monster, the Monster's happiness will increase by 25%. Placing more than one of the same liked item near a Monster won't increase its happiness by an additional amount. If there's a Unity Tree or a Primordial Monster on the Island, items don't need to be near the Monster. Below are the things liked by Humbug:

Kazilleon

Floofy Nest

Statistics[]
Earning Rate and Maximum Income[]
Earning rate is in Coins per minute or Shards per hour and depends on Happiness % (Likes increase Happiness) and Monster Level. Each Monster also has a maximum amount of income it can hold at a time. Increasing the Monster's level also increases this limit.
Earth Island[]
Ethereal Island[]
Feeding Monsters[]
Each Monster needs to be fed four times before it reaches the next level. Increasing the Monster's level increases the shards earned per minute, as well as the maximum shards earned.

Note: As of version 1.2.0, Single-Element Ethereals can be fed to level 15 on the Natural Islands, at which time they can be teleported to Ethereal Island instead of being placed on Gold Island.

Notes[]
- Humbug's name is a portmanteau of "Hum" and "Bug", referring to its hum-like buzzing sound and that it is a bug. It is also a play on the English word of the same name.
- It is true that some insects are attracted to warm places, as Humbug is to Earth Island.
- Humbug was the first Ethereal Monster to have a purchasable Costume.
- The Monstrous symbol for the number '5' appears on Humbug's head. Humbug was the 5th Single-Element Ethereal to be released in the game.
