The Hawlo is 'knot' what it appears to be... but just what IS it? No one dares woodchip the chipper wood making up this percussive Monster's disguise to find out. Instead, its peers have chosen to accept Hawlo's perplexing presentation, and simply shake their trunk to the 'berry' delightful rhythm of its stump or admire its talent for pyrogravure.

Description

Hawlo’s full body cannot be seen, as most of it is in a log except for its arms and legs. The limbs are brown, the hands have two blunt fingers, and the feet have three blunt toes. The eyes are yellow and glowing, as seen from the log. The log is long and has a spiral symbol on where the monster’s belly would be, which plays one part of the song.

A wooden mask with two eyeholes rests above it's eyes. On top of its mask is a twig with a dangling leaf (or a pair of berries in its render). The mask has a few cracks around the edges.

Breeding

The Hawlo can be bred with the elements Fire (Fire Element) and Bone (Bone Element). There is only one breeding combination:

Note that breeding a double element Bone elemental is not a guaranteed success, as with all other Fire/Magical double elementals.

Earning Rate and Maximum Income

Earning rate is in coins per hour and depends on Happiness % (Likes increase Happiness), also each monster has a limit to how much income it can hold at a time. Increasing the monster's level increases the limit.

Every monster has different things that they like. For every unique object that they like that's placed near the monster, the monster's happiness will increase by 25%. Placing more than one of the same liked item near a monster will still only increase its happiness by 25%. If there's a Unity Tree on the island, items don't need to be near the monsters. Below are the things liked by Hawlo:

Strategy

To see how efficient Hawlo is at generating resources compared to other monsters check:

Name Origin

It is a play on the word hollow (referring to how its trunk is hollow). It also may refer to the berries on its head, which are reminiscent to hawthorn berries.

Notes

  • Hawlo with a Leaf
For its first few hours in game, Hawlo had appeared to have a leaf atop its head, instead of the berries shown in its official renders and spoken about in its bio. This was later fixed to include the berries.
  • Pyrogravure is the art of decorating wood with controlled burn marks. The Hawlo, wearing a wooden shell, would probably know a bit about it. Pyrogravure may also be a pun on the elements it consists of, Fire and Bone, along with its wooden exterior.
