“ | Before they can grow into a mighty figure worthy of Quint status, Gnarls undergo an awkward pubescence where they must find themselves - quite literally! As parasitic vines that work together to control their arboreal host, a single bloom is simply too weak to achieve total motor control mastery. For this reason, budding Gnarls gather together in modest bushes to practice vine arts and find their partner in parasitism. | ” |
— Young Bio |
“ | Once a mature Gnarls perfectly finds its perfectly parasitic counterpart, the two beings use their lengthy vines to swing branch-to-branch, stalactite-to-stalagmite to find a more 'spacious' host to call home. With its motor functions now under the control of its friendly new Gnarls, the tree host can finally uproot itself from its sedentary lifestyle and travel the world! The murmur of the breeze blowing through their tendrils provides a pleasant ambiance for Gnarls' vine-raising globetrotting expeditions. | ” |
— Adult Bio |
“ | These Gnarls returned from the Prism Gate forever changed! While the Gnarls' tree host was unaffected by the power of the Prism Gate, the parasitic Plant Monsters themselves were reconstituted and fused at the molecular level, resulting in some light (okay, moderate) scorching of the trunk. Fret not, for even in the face of its Fiery transformation, the tree will grow back stronger than ever - extraordinary! | ” |

Description[]
Gnarls is a Quint-Elemental Monster that is first available at Level 7. It is best obtained by breeding Noggin and Incisaur. Its breeding and incubation time is 48 hours long. It can be teleported to Cave Island once fed to Level 20. It was added in Version 3.0.7 along with Hoola on the Continent.
Song[]
Audio sample:
Voice actors: Tyson McGavin, Jenn Iannessa, and Charlie Conlon
On the Continent, Gnarls plays at the end of the song. It sings "Nya, nya, nya, nya, nyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa".
On Cave Island, it plays at the intermission verse before Bisonorus's part and at the end of the song. It sings "Nya, nya, nyaaaaaaaa, nyaaaaaaaa, nyaaaaa, nyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah" and "Nya, nya, nyaaaaaaaaaaaaa, nya nya nya nya, nyaaaaaaaaaaa".
Breeding[]
Gnarls can be bred with the elements Plant, Earth, Water, Cold, and Fire. The following are the combinations for breeding Gnarls:
- + Incisaur and Noggin
- + Tiawa and Potbelly
- + PongPing and Toe Jammer
- + Edamimi and Mammott
- + Entbrat and Kayna
- + Wynq and Shrubb
- + Sooza and Fwog
- + Rootitoot and Drumpler
- + Bowgart and Stogg
- + Ziggurab and Oaktopus
- + Thrumble and Furcorn
- + T-Rox and Flowah
- + Repatillo and Maw
- + Clamble and Phangler
- + Pummel and Boskus
Of these, Incisaur+Noggin is the best combination, as failing and breeding a Noggin lets you retry the combo fairly quickly.
Gnarls can also be bred through breeding failure. Any combination that includes Gnarls and another Monster has a 50% chance to result in either Gnarls or the other Monster. The best combinations include:
- + Gnarls and Noggin
(Best choice, has the lowest waiting time in case of not resulting in a Gnarls. 50% chance of a Noggin)
- + Gnarls and Kayna
(Second best choice, 50% chance of a Kayna)

Rewards[]
When given the wanted foods or items, like any Monster, it will reward you Coins.

Notes[]
- Gnarls represents the Plant Element.
- Gnarls is:
- the last remaining Natural Monster to be added to the game.
- the last Quint-Element Monster to be added to the game.
- the first Quint-Element Monster to be unlocked, which is at level 7 (since Version 3.1.0).
- the only Quint-Element Monster to be unlocked at level 7 (since Version 3.1.0).
- the last Quint to be released in 2024.
- The only monster without the Air Element to play in Reedling and Spunge's verse.
- Gnarls is the first Monster in general (without counting Hoola) to be introduced during the SummerSong Junior event.
- Both Gnarls are present on Young Gnarls, but only one Gnarl is seen awake. As well as that, the smaller head on the top-left seems to be an attached fetus, as it doesn't look to be consciously awake.
- Like the situation with Bowhead and Tuskski, Gnarls' design is drastically different from the original game. This is noticeable in that it is more detailed.
- Gnarls is currently the last Monster to be on Cave Island.
- When Gnarls released on Cave Island, there was a bug where the tentacles on the right side of Gnarls' head were frozen. Luckily, this bug was patched just recently.
- Gnarls going to Cave Island in Dawn of Fire was hinted at in the Fire Expansion update, when Gnarls went to Bone Island (Cave Island's Magical counterpart).
- Gnarls is the last Monster to receive its Prismatic forms to:
- Be on Bone Island & Amber Island in the main game.
- Have the Fire Element
- Not have the Air Element
- When Gnarls first released in Dawn of Fire, it was unlocked at level 9, despite all of its Elements being available at level 7. This was later changed in Version 3.1.0, where it now unlocks at level 7. Thus, making Gnarls the earliest unlockable Quint-Element Monster in the game.
- There appears to be a pattern with the Prismatic Quints, which all the Elements of the Quints would be pushed back by two, arranged by the elements order (Air, Plant, Earth, Water, Cold, Fire). For Gnarls, even though it represents the Plant Element, its Prismatic forms represent the Fire Element.
- Gnarls has the shortest distance between its release in DoF and its Prismatic release, at just 70 days.
- There might be interesting facts about the Prismatic Gnarls during their playing animations.
- Orange Prismatic Gnarls has two additional mouths on its body. One of the extra mouths sings in its animations.
- Blue Prismatic Gnarls uses hands to sing, rather than using tendrils.
- During its animations, Yellow Prismatic Gnarls' eyes can be seen moving around in its goop.
- Green Prismatic Gnarls' eyes almost always face in opposite directions when it sings.
- Young Gnarls’ bio suggests that the bush is a complex of multiple unbloomed Gnarls that are all attempting to find their counterpart for parasitism. Once two Gnarls find each other they detach from the bush and swing away together through the trees and caverns. What happens to the bush and the other Gnarls is unknown.
- Bowhead and Gnarls both released in the same year, making 2024 the first year since 2019 in which more than one Fire Monster was released in Dawn of Fire.
- Gnarls had a scrapped Summersong Junior costume that was meant to come out alongside its own release in the game in 2024 but never did for an unknown reason (Though Gnarls did get a Festival of Yay Junior Costume five months later).
