My Singing Monsters
This is the main article for Monsters. For the category, see Category:Monsters.
This article is about the Monsters of My Singing Monsters. For the Monsters of My Singing Monsters: Dawn of Fire, see Monsters (Dawn of Fire).
Menu monsters

Monsters are the main inhabitants of the Monster World, and the heart and foundation of My Singing Monsters. There are currently 412 known species of Monsters (417 if you count every Epic Wubbox variant as a different species, 212 if not including any variants). Each of these creatures has distinctive voices or sounds that they use to contribute to the various songs found in the game. Once Monsters are collected, they can be muted and unmuted in order to create a unique mix. In addition, a Time Machine can be purchased to speed up or slow down the tempo, or a Recording Studio to change the voices of most types of Monsters entirely.

Every Monster has the ability to produce Currency; most produce it in the form of Coins (Coins) or Shards (Shards), while few can produce it in the form of Diamonds (Diamonds), Treats (Treats), Relics (Relics), or Keys (Keys). The rate a Monster produces currency can be increased by increasing its Happiness or Polarity.

Classes

Monsters are divided into classes that categorize Monsters based on similar qualities or characteristics. There are twelve classes across the Monster universe, each with unique Elements and Breeding Combinations. Individual Island pages will show the Monsters native to that Island.

Natural Monsters

Main article: Natural Monsters

Natural Monsters are the first class of Monsters encountered in My Singing Monsters, and they inhabit most islands in the Monster World. They each have one or more of the five Natural Elements: Plant (Plant Element), Cold (Cold Element), Air (Air Element), Water (Water Element), and Earth (Earth Element). On each Natural Island, only 4 of these elements can be found.

Fire Monsters

Main article: Fire Monsters

Fire Monsters are a class of Monsters associated with the element of Fire (Fire Element). They used to be considered part of the Natural class, until after the release of Fire Haven. The Single Elemental Monster of this class, Kayna, was first added to the game through Tribal Island. It wasn't until 2018 that more Fire Monsters were discovered with the release of Fire Haven, and later Fire Oasis. With the releases of the Magical Islands, every Triple-Element Fire Monster was released. This all culminated with the release of Amber Island, which added the remaining Quad and Quint-Element Monsters.

Magical Monsters

Main article: Magical Monsters

Magical Monsters are a class of Monsters exclusive to the Magical Islands that are associated with one or more certain elements, those being Light (Light Element), Psychic (Psychic Element), Faerie (Faerie Element), and/or Bone (Bone Element). As with the Fire Monsters, they are harder to breed and take longer to hatch than common Natural Monsters.

Ethereal Monsters

Main article: Ethereal Monsters

Ethereal Monsters are a class of Monsters found on Ethereal Island and Ethereal Workshop. Each Ethereal is associated with one or more of the following five Ethereal elements: Plasma (Plasma Element), Shadow (Shadow Element), Mech (Mech Element), Crystal (Crystal Element), and/or Poison (Poison Element). The Single-Element Ethereals are obtained by breeding a Triple-Element Monster with a Quad-Element Monster on the Natural Islands. These Monsters are hard to acquire, since there is only about a 1% chance per try of breeding them on the Natural Islands. They can then be teleported to Ethereal Island when fed to level 15 to breed together to make the Double-Element Ethereals.

While Ethereal Island features exclusively Single and Double-Element Ethereals, Ethereal Workshop features unstable Monsters with more than 2 elements who must be synthesized by using attuned Meebs.

Seasonal Monsters

Main article: Seasonal Monsters

Seasonal Monsters are a class of Monsters that are only available for limited-time Seasonal Events, special promotions, or very rarely through the Nursery Scratch Ticket on the Natural Islands. There are a total of 15 Seasonal Monsters that represent an Event, and a unique element. Once they are fed to level 15, they can be teleported to Seasonal Shanty, where Seasonals are available year-round. Jam Boree is the only Monster to be exclusively bred on Seasonal Shanty and to not be considered a Core or Aux. Seasonal. In the past, the Seasonal Monsters were known as "Limited Time Monsters" or "Special Edition Monsters".

Legendary Monsters

Main article: Legendary Monsters

Legendary Monsters are a special class of Monsters, all of which manifest one element, Legendary (Legendary Element). They are divided into two subclasses: the Shugafam and the Werdos. The Shugafam are a special group of Monsters found on Shugabush Island, and are a result of a collaboration with musician Kristian Bush. They are obtained by teleporting a Shugabush fed to level 15 from Plant Island. The Werdos are Monsters that add lyrics to the Natural Islands, and they can only be obtained by purchasing them for 100 Relics each.

Mythical Monsters

Main article: Mythical Monsters

Mythical Monsters are a class of Monsters that used to be exclusive to the Playstation Vita, but they were later added to the main release in 2019. These Monsters manifest two elements, Mythical (Mythical Element) and Dream (Dream Element). Near the end of September 2022, Mythical Island was released, an island housing all of the Mythical Monsters. On this island, you can breed the Mythicals found on the Natural and Fire Islands with Cataliszt, the Dream Elemental, to get Dreamythicals.

Supernatural Monsters

Main article: Supernatural Monsters

Supernatural Monsters are a special class of Monsters that include Wubbox, its Rare and Epic variants, and the Wublins, all of which manifest one element, Electricity (Electricity Element). These Monsters are special in that they require Monsters to be activated. The Wubboxes are activated by boxing Natural/Fire Monsters into them, and the Wublins are activated by Zapping Monster eggs into them. The Common and Rare Wubboxes on Ethereal Island are both part of the exclusive Superethereal class, due to them requiring Ethereal Monsters to be boxed into them.

Celestials

Main article: Celestials

Celestials are a class of Monsters found on Celestial Island that all manifest the appropriately named Celestial Element (Celestial Element). After being purchased in the Market with Diamonds, the Celestials must be activated by zapping eggs into their dormant statues. They can also ascend to their Adult forms, but only during the month in which each Monster's zodiac aligns.

Dipsters

Main article: Dipsters

Dipsters are a class of Monsters that sing single notes as they pop out of their holes in the ground. They can be bought in the Market with Keys. They don't take up any beds, and only 10 of each species can be purchased on an island. These Monsters used to not have any element to represent them, but this changed in June 2017 when they were all given the same one: the "Dipster" (Dipster Element) Element.

Rare Monsters

Main article: Rare Monsters

Rare Monsters are a variant of regular Monsters that are more difficult to obtain when available for a limited time. These Monsters have the same songs and animations as their Common counterparts (with the exception of Rare Wubbox), but they generate more Currency. Outside of the Rare Single-Element Monsters, they also have the same breeding combinations, however their breeding times are longer. Once you obtain a Rare, you can breed it together with its Common version to get that Common Monster 100% of the time.

Rares are also uniquely available to buy in the StarShop when available. Since 2020, a group of 3 Rares (two Naturals and one Fire Monster) are available to buy with Starpower every two weeks. Sometimes, Monsters are also available in the StarShop for other special promotions, like during Seasonal Events.

Epic Monsters

Main article: Epic Monsters

Epic Monsters are a subclass of Monsters even more elusive than Rares. However, unlike Rares, these special Monsters have unique breeding combinations on each island, and once obtained, they cannot be bred with. Aside from Epic Wubbox, all other Epic Monsters retain exactly the same songs as their Common and Rare counterparts. Epic Seasonals have unique animations. Like Rares, Epics generate even more Currency.

Breeding

Main article: Breeding

Breeding is the main way to get more Monsters to populate your Islands. For a breakdown of each combination for a particular Monster, see Breeding Combinations. To see all breeding times, and to help determine which Monster you just got, see Breeding Times. Natural, Seasonal, Mythical, Shugafam, and some Ethereal and Fire Monsters are obtainable through breeding in addition to buying.

However, not all Monsters can be bred. Some special Monsters are exclusively bought in the Market, such as Wubbox, the Werdos, and the Dipsters. On Islands that don't have any breeding whatsoever, like Wublin Island and Celestial Island, Monsters will have to be purchased as well.

Eggs

Main article: Eggs

Each Monster, excluding Gold Epic Wubbox, the Wublins, the Celestials, and the Dipsters, has its own unique Egg, so even in egg form, it can be identified. Rares and Epics have their own egg designs now as well as the retained certain effect to the shell, almost like a shine. Epic Monsters have binds and a radiant glow around the egg.

Feeding Monsters

Main article: Feeding

A Monster's level increases every four meals it is fed, up to a maximum of twenty levels. (Food can be made in a Bakery.) When a Monster's level increases, so do the number of coins it earns per minute, the maximum amount of coins it can hold, and the amount of food necessary for each of its meals. It will also grow bigger at levels 4, 10, and 15. Generally, at level 4, Monsters can be used for breeding. At level 5, Natural, Core Seasonal, and non-Workshop Ethereal Monsters can be teleported to the Colossingum. Reaching level 15 will allow a Monster to be placed on Gold Island, or sent to Ethereal Island, Shugabush Island, Mythical Island, or Seasonal Shanty depending on the Monster.

Likes

Main article: Likes

Each Monster, excluding Monsters on Wublin Island, Celestial Island, and islands where Monsters do not produce currency, has at least four different things that they like on each island. For every unique object that they like that is placed near them, that Monster's happiness will increase by 25%. Placing two of the same item near a Monster will still only increase its happiness by 25%. How quickly Monsters earn coins is based on their Happiness.

Normally, for something to increase a Monster's happiness, the two objects must be placed side by side. However, purchasing a Unity Tree from the Market (available at level 16) will allow decorations and Monsters to be placed anywhere on an island, including into Storage or a Hotel, without affecting the Monster's happiness level.

There is a list of which Monsters like what items on each island. There is also a list of which decorations are liked by each Monster.

Polarity

Main article: Polarity

Wublins instead use the polarity mechanic. It will be positively affected by a certain Monster and negatively affected by another Monster. Due to the lack of a Unity Tree-like structure, you can only get an optimal layout by placing Monsters strategically. A detailed guide for this is on Wublin Island Grid Planning.

Notes

Monster sign

Symbol used for the Monsters

  • If one could use real-world science to study Monsters, all Natural Monsters would be the same species. This happens because, biologically, only Monsters of the same species are able to breed and almost always produce a fertile offspring (another Natural Monster).
    • Rare Monsters would be of the same species as Natural ones: they would be, as expected, variants of their common counterparts, much like dog or cat breeds.
  • In order to send secret messages to players, BBB uses an English-based language called Monstrous, which is implied, according to in-game lore, to be invented by the Monsters themselves.
  • The Monster with the longest name which isn't a Rare, Epic, or Prismatic Monster is Gobbleygourd with 12 characters, while the Monsters with the shortest name are all Dipsters except Sol, with only two characters.
  • In pages lost to time, the Monster-Handlers would introduce new Monsters via Meet the Monsters graphics on the official website and on social media. New Monsters are now typically teased on social media and in-game, with full reveals following.
  • To find out who voiced a given vocal monster (monsters who make sound using their voice), see the Voice Actors page.
  • Monsters refer to humans in the Human World as "hoomans" in My Singing Monsters: Fandemonium.
  • Unlike humans, who have to use faces that they've seen in real life when they dream, a Monster's subconscious is much more powerful and can come up with original ideas.
  • The maximum number of possible Monsters that there could be if EVERY current Element inside of MSM was Breedable with each other and if the maximum Elements 1 Monster could possibly have is 5, the number of Monsters elementally possible is a grand total of 443,703 Monsters total. (1,331,109 if you include both Rares and Epics).
