Critters

“	Critters typically represent the fauna of an Island. If you can think of the birds chirping on Plant Island, they sort of help round out the natural aspect of many Islands. Recall that the singing Monsters are sort of the civilization of the Monster World - they sort of straddle the line between.. a strong connection with the natural world, and also a connection with sort of a more organized society - whereas the Critters are moreso 'animalistic'.. they're more, well, Critters is really the perfect word to describe them.	”

Critters are the small little creatures that can be spotted moving around either on the outside edges of, or in the background scene behind an Island. They don’t sing and aren’t considered Monsters. Each Island and Island Skin has a unique Critter and some of them even change during Special Occasions. Critters can also be found on some Monsters and on, or in, some Decorations.

Critters are exclusive to My Singing Monsters, as none of the Islands in Dawn of Fire have any Critters. In My Singing Monsters Playground, there is a unique type of critter called a "Bitter Critter" found in the minigame "Bitter Critters". This type of critter is not friendly, and will harm players on contact.

Most of the Natural Island Critters also have Mirror Island variants.
- The only one without a Mirror Island variant is Earth Island's Critter, which remains the same on Earth Island, Mirror Earth Island, and during Summersong.
  - This is likely due to the fact that Earth Island’s Critter is actually a reference to another game by Big Blue Bubble called Burn the Rope. This "critter's" name is Wickman.
The critter for Composer Island was teased in a Tweet from the official MSM Twitter account that was posted three days before Composer Island itself was announced.^[4]
Water Island, its Mirror variant, and Fire Oasis are the only Islands with two unique critters.
- Plant Island also has two critters during Spooktacle.
Celestial Island’s critter is actually never fully seen in-game. Only its eyes peek through a tiny hole.
- While the My Singing Monsters social media accounts have previously shown ladybug-like Critters on Celestial Island, these critters are actually associated with the revived Scaratar and can be found on its instrument. They are not the official Critter of Celestial Island, though.
Viveine carries three of the Critters within itself, which appear throughout its song; Amber Island's Wingaling appears on top of its head when it sneezes, while during its 'idle' animation, Plant Island's appears from its head and Cold Island's appears on the floor around it.
Oaktopus on Shugabush Island was the first ever Monster to house/pet a Critter, as it bears a nest in its algae that houses two of Plant Island's birdlike Critters. Eventually, the Rare Thumpies, Rare PomPom, Scaratar, Viveine, Quibble, and Furcorn would also eventually house Critters.
- The latter two would gain Critters on Shugabush Island upon the addition of Viveine.
It has been confirmed by Big Blue Bubble that the Fire Haven Critter's appearance is based off of the Honduran White Bat.
The eyes floating around Psychic island are confirmed as Critters in Periscorp's description.
In episode 58 of My Singing Monsters Live, it was confirmed that Woolabee's birds are not, in fact, critters.
The Bone Island critter is known as "Elushark".^{[citation needed]}
The critters on Amber Island are revealed to be called "Wingalings" in Viveine's bio.
Faerie Island's critter resembles the Will o' the Wisp as seen in the Pixar animated film Brave.
Crumplings are invisible fairies, according to the Crumpler Tree's bio, that can be considered critters that live in the Miniature Island Complex and possibly Epic Gobbleygourd. It is unknown what type of critter is in the Sanctum swimming pool.
The fish inside the Glubber Lagoon critter can be seen in Potbelly's Bowl-Cuttings Costume.
The Monster World also has bacteria-sized organisms shaped like the "M" that appears in the logo that live in the Living Ocean and potentially other places.
The SkyPainting Island Skin is the only main-game Island that does not feature a Critter, as the normal Light Island centipede gets blocked by other decorations.
The Meebs have an impact on all the mechanics of Ethereal Workshop.
- Meebs are representative of all the Ethereal elements that are used to synthesize the Triple Element Ethereals.
Monster-Handler Matt confirmed in the update 4.2 showcase that the butterflies on Magical Nexus are the Island's critters.
- Monster-Handler Matt had also stated in the same live stream that the butterflies on Magical Nexus are meant to guide the Magicals to successfully arrive on the Island.
The Bitter Critters in My Singing Monsters Playground share a striking resemblance to Torrt.
