VSTs[]
- Main article: VSTs
Virtual Studio Technology (VST) is a plugin format that allows audio software to integrate with digital audio workstations (DAWs). VST plugins come in two main forms: instruments (VSTi), which generate sounds, such as synthesizers and sample libraries, and effects, which process audio, through tools like reverb or distortion. Individual sounds within these plugins may be referred to as patches, presets, samples, or articulations, depending on the plugin. The Monster-Handlers utilize several VST plugins to create the sounds of instrumental and sometimes vocal Monsters. Note that many pages incorrectly label patches as "SoundFonts", an unrelated audio format.

Likes[]
Every Monster has different things that they like. For every unique object that they like that's placed near the Monster, the Monster's happiness will increase by 25%. Placing more than one of the same liked item near a Monster won't increase its happiness by an additional amount. If there's a Unity Tree or a Primordial Monster of the same rarity on the Island, items don't need to be near the Monster. Below are the things liked by Barrb:

Note: On Amber Island, all of Barrb's likes are only obtainable for a limited time. Amber Vessels must be revitalized before they count towards Barrb's happiness.

Revitalizing[]
On Amber Island, Barrb must be powered up rather than being bred. Unlike Wublins and Celestials, the allotted time to fill a Vessel does not start when the first egg is zapped, but instead are only available to purchase and fill at select times. The inventory must be completed in this time. When a purchased vessel is incomplete after the time, it will disappear and half of the relics spent will be given back. You will also get the option to revive Barrb by purchasing the missing eggs with Diamonds. Eggs can be zapped from Mirror Islands instead of, or in conjunction with Natural and Magical Islands.

Filling In[]
Like other Monsters on Amber Island, Barrb can instead be filled in with Diamonds. Each egg can be filled in for 40
. Barrb requires a total of 1,480
for all eggs to be filled.
Since all eggs have an equal Diamond fill cost, it is best to save your Diamonds for the Monsters that are harder to obtain. And oftentimes, it is cheaper to speed up eggs to zap from the Breeding Structure instead.
Wildcards may also be used when filling in a Barrb's inventory with 1
per egg. Similarly, it's best to save them for harder to obtain Monsters.
Availability[]
- For a list of when this Monster has been available on Amber Island, see Breeding Availability
Statistics[]
Earning Rate and Maximum Income[]
Earning rate is in Coins per minute or Relics per month (28 days) and depends on Happiness % (Likes increase Happiness) and Monster Level. Each Monster also has a maximum amount of income it can hold at a time. Increasing the Monster's level also increases this limit.
Fire Haven[]
Amber Island[]
When collecting from Barrb, you will only receive the whole number of Relics generated.
Feeding Monsters[]
Each Monster needs to be fed four times before it reaches the next level. Increasing the Monster's level increases the Coins earned per minute, as well as the maximum Coins earned.

More info can be found in the Feeding article.
Egg Consumption[]
- Main article: Zapping
While trying to breed other Monsters (particularly Monsters with a very low chance of breeding), the following Celestials and Vessels can be used to "dispose of" Barrb eggs immediately, instead of putting them into a Nursery and having that Nursery not be available. Note that doing this for Rare and Epic Wublins will cause the Wublin to stop producing currency and the eggs will not expire.

|
Note that Monster eggs can only be "disposed of" before awakening Celestials and Vessels; afterwards those Monsters will not accept any eggs. Also note that Monsters to which you have already disposed the number of Barrb eggs that it accepts, will no longer be available as a "recycle bin" for such eggs. Awakened Celestials only accept eggs during their corresponding Celestial month.

Notes[]
- Barrb's name is a play on the word "barb," which is a backwards-facing point on a spine or fish hook.
- Barrb also has heterochromia in the original My Singing Monsters game like in Dawn of Fire. It can be seen more clearly in its Dawn of Fire design.
- According to a tweet by the Monster-Handlers, Barrb requires roughly 6 times more water to stay healthy than an average human, and can gladly absorb over 1200 gallons of water per calendar year through the magenta leaves on its collar.
- Barrb has the longest breeding failure time out of any non-Magical Triple-Element Monster, as all of the Monsters that are used in its combinations take over an hour to breed.
- This is not the case in Dawn of Fire, as Kayna only takes 15 minutes to breed. In that game, the Monster with the longest breeding failure time is Spunge.
- There was a bug where Barrb's Vessel required two Gobbleygourds instead of 2 Gobs during its release. This was later fixed.
- This incident was referred to as The Great Gobbleygourd Gob Snafu of 2022 in the 3.9.4 Showcase video.
- When the bug occurred, Gobbleygourd was not yet available on Fire Haven or Fire Oasis, but Gobbleygourd eggs could be zapped from Seasonal Shanty. This was before there was a rule that Seasonal Shanty's generator interferes with the ability to zap eggs.
- The concept for zapping Seasonal eggs was reused for adult Celestials, with adult Plixie requiring a Gobbleygourd egg.
- According to a Discord message from Dave Kerr, the sound for Barrb on Light Island (if it was a Fire Island) was going to be a melodic sound just like Flowah, but the sound itself hasn't been revealed.[citation needed]
- Barrb is the only Monster to be liked by two Seasonals.
