The Astropod is a bizarre amalgam of seemingly incompatible features that come together to create a truly unique Monster performer. The electricity that courses through its Wublin body manifests itself between its antlers and in the color-shifting tufts on its shell. Conversing with an Astropod is a complicated affair, as the slightest movement of its puny upper arms communicates nuanced subtexts and exposed veiled thoughts.
Monster Bio

Description[]

Astropod is a Supernatural Monster exclusive to Wublin Island. It was added on February 24th, 2017 during Version 2.0.3. Astropod is obtained by being purchased in the Market for 20,000 Coins as an inactive statue, which can be woken up by zapping all required Monster Eggs into it. It has a decent currency production compared to other Wublins.

Song[]

Instrument: Electric synthesizer

Astropod plays a sound similar to an electric synthesizer.

Astropod adds a verse to the very beginning of Wublin Island's song, accompanied by Thwok and Dwumrohl. It proceeds to play through the island's former first verse, and in the verse after Whajje, Zuuker, and Pixolotl's first time playing (when Dermit and Blipsqueak join in).

VSTs[]

Virtual Studio Technology is an audio plugin software that has libraries of sound effects and synthesized instruments. Within these libraries are SoundFonts, which are the individual effects and instruments themselves. The Monster-Handlers utilize several VSTs to create the sounds of instrumental and sometimes vocal Monsters.

VST: HALion 6
Sound library: Trium
SoundFont: Glazier

Breeding[]

Astropod cannot be bred. Like all Wublins, it is bought at the Market as an inactive statue that must be woken up.

Powering Up[]

The allotted time to fill a Astropod in order to activate is 10 days. If the inventory is not completed in the time the Astropod resets to an empty statue and all eggs inside are lost. Eggs can be zapped from Mirror Islands instead of, or in conjunction with Natural Islands.

Filling In[]

Like other Wublins, Astropod can instead be filled in with Diamonds. Each egg can be filled in for 30Diamonds. Astropod requires a total of 1,260Diamonds for all eggs to be filled.

Since all eggs have an equal Diamond fill cost, it is best to save your Diamonds for the Monsters that are harder to obtain. And oftentimes, it is cheaper to speed up eggs to zap from the Breeding Structure instead.

Wildcards may also be used when filling in a Astropod's inventory. Similarly, it's best to save them for harder to obtain Monsters.

Income[]

Main article: Wublins#Income

Astropod, like other Wublins, can produce between Coins39,000 and Coins78,000 Coins, Treats7,200 and Treats14,400 Treats, and Shards144 and Shards288 Shards. As a Monster that takes up a 2x2 grid space, Astropod produces Diamonds2 Diamonds. Wublins generate a random type of currency every 6 to 12 hours. This rate can be increased or decreased depending on Polarity.

Currency generation is calculated separately per Monster, so multiple Astropods will receive more currency, and have a higher chance overall to obtain valuable Diamonds. For maximizing income across your Wublin Island, see Wublin Island Grid Planning.

Currency Distribution[]

Main article: Wublins#Currency Type Distribution

The currency for Astropod is randomly selected from the 4 currencies it can produce. The chances to get each currency are detailed below. Datapoints are the number of recorded collections; the higher number of datapoints, the more accurate the data is.

Astropod's Currency Distribution
Coins Coins Treats Treats Shards Shards Diamonds Diamonds Datapoints
31.23% 32.11% 32.18% 4.48% 1,361

Please do not edit this table. The data is taken from the Wublins page, which is derived from a joint spreadsheet. You can share your data on its talk page. Note that only large sample sizes of data are valuable.

Polarity[]

All Wublins are affected by Polarity, a mechanic that modifies their currency rate similar to happiness for other Monsters. When a Wublin is placed near another Wublin they are positively charged towards, the time to produce currency will decrease by 25%. When placed near a Wublin they are negatively charged towards, the time to produce currency will increase by 25%. The Common variants can be used instead for Rare Wublins, but the effect will be half as strong. Rare variants can fully affect the polarity of a Common Wublin.

Strategy[]

The following section details strategy for powering up Astropod, for general strategy that can apply to any Monster, see Zapping#Strategy

Astropod can be powered up with up to Water Island unlocked. It can be powered up faster with more Islands unlocked, with Bonus Breeding Structures, or Enhanced Breeding Structures. The following strategies require zapping Eggs twice per day, once in the morning and once at night. However, for the first 5 Days, you only need to zap Monsters once per day.

Note that the tables below don't include the required 10 Toe Jammers needed to power up Astropod. Since Toe Jammer has a very low Breeding time, they can be easily obtained during or after you zap all of the other Monsters. A good method is to cycle through 3 to 4 Islands it's available on, so you don't have to wait around for a minute.

If you have all Islands up to Water Island, breed:

Finally, if you have all Islands and Mirror Islands unlocked, and Bonus Breeding Structures on every Island, you can complete Astropod even faster using this strategy. Note that this strategy requires you to prebreed a Deedge on Shugabush Island. Since Shugabush Island breeding is unreliable, the strategy assumes that you can only breed on it once.

Notes[]

  • Astropod's name comes from "Gastropod", a term describing snails and slugs, and "Astro", meaning related to stars; this meaning "star-foot" in Ancient Greek.
  • It was teased in a word-search puzzle, in which you eliminate the other Wublin names and find the remaining letters. [1]The answer is "Wublin Astropod!".
  • It breaks the pattern of releasing an instrumental Wublin, and then a vocal Wublin.
  • The January teaser confirms (or suggests) that Wubbox is the creator of the Wublins by its shadow.
  • Astropod is modeled after a purple sea slug, and it most closely resembles the nudibranch Felimida britoi.
  • Astropod's statue has eyespots.
  • This Wublin is the first Wublin not to have its music featured in the Wublin Island tutorial.
  • All of the monsters that are required to wake up this Wublin are water-based, with the only exception of Deedge.
  • On February 26th, 2017, Big Blue Bubble released a gif stating five facts about the newest five Wublins. The facts for Astropod are:
    • Gravitates towards foreign films.
    • Underside of its "foot" said to resemble a star.
    • Shed shell tufts make great mood rings.
